can anyone advise what way to do this menu?
Posted by Nancy Wannous on 15 January 2006 at 01:20Hi guys,
Here is one menu that i am working on at the moment i am not very happy with the layout the only reason is too much text to fit in it. Now my client didn’t want anything fancy and wanted all this info on it She didn’t want red color or yellow.
Please guys tell me if there is any other better nicer looking way to to do it.
As well can you guys advise me what is the best board to use for indoor the final size for the menu will be 3300 x 900
Cheers

๐ฎ Lotsa text there Nancy. From experience doing a few pizza shops myself, whatever you do will always look busy.
My only crit would be the ‘pizza’ word being out of line with the rest.
As far as material goes, I’ve been using dibond alot lately for this style of thing, lightweight, easy to cut and handle. It comes in 4m x 1250 sheet too.
The other thing I have used is fourex (expanded foam pvc – ePVC). Easy to cut but I’d use the 6mm version for a bit of backbone.
They only other advice I’d give is to laminate it in a satin finish, or use a satin vynil to print it on. Avery have just released a very good one that is ideal for menu boards or signs that have a problem with light reflection
cheers

hi nancy ๐
i have to agree with shane..on the pizza and make it blue, keeping in with the rest of the headings….also make the blue designs at the top smaller so you can see the name better ๐

I’ve always been told that blue is a bad choice in a menu or restaurant sign.
Supposedly it suppresses the appetite?
Red is the color of choice, albeit hard to read, as it is said to stimulate the appetite.
Hence the red checkered tablecloths in some restaurants.
Just my 2ยข, I agree with the other comments as well.

Hi Nancy we get quite a few menus to do it’s always the same problem, to many items not enough room ๐
I can’t see how you can make your’s any better as she has limited your colour choice maybe as Nik said make the fancy bit on top a bit smaller !!Lynn

Agree with Lynn, customer always gives you too much text to put on. Are you designing this for printing or vinyl lettering?
One thing i always do is put a complementary coloured line vertically in between the columns, it’s does help the customers read it better.

Nancy I feel better for you to hear that you are printing this it would be one long long weed
Lynn xx

not only that Lynn, problem arises when the customers rings you & says “will you come & change the prices”……….easily done when lettered not so simple with print unless you print out a new strip to go on top of original.

That’s what i was gonna do John later on if the customer wants to change the prices i was gonna place them on top of the old one .
doing this job as cut lettering i have to charge the client double or more this menu is 3300 x 900mm yap. my machine will start screaming at me if i do that lol.
-
not with ours John as we always over laminate with clear for cleaning purposes so it’s always a new one, price is good but a pain to weed
some customers are smart and don’t over laminte so they can change pricesLynn
-
i am not charging much for this job so i hope it goes nice and smooth. especially cos I’m doing it alone .
-
more recently I only print the description, headings, pictures etc but leave the columns of prices white. So all i do then in lettering is the prices, which can be changed at any time.
I have printed a strip many times with new prices on but don’t like the fact you can see a white line each side which is the material edges.
