Posted by Brian Little on 21 June 2008 at 13:41lately i have been giving a few odds and ends to another sign company/ friends to do didgy stuff for me .Nothing big just stuff that would be a nightmare to weed …..question is there anyway i can duplicate the colours on the comp screen as ive noticed a few times the didgys come out with a totally different colour than i had hoped

what printer and software does he use and what software do you use

Probably not Brian unless you both have calibrated screens (to the same settings) and a set of ‘test prints’ to verify it. (I keep a book of Pantone & RAL prints I did when I first got the printer – so I can easily say "I want THIS green to print….make it Pantone 8798 and it’ll be right" regardless of what PC I’m using at the time.
Anyway…you up to much today?

Yeh, same as the Mutoh valuejet 1204 apparently.
Has that slinky ‘interweave’ print pattern to eliminate banding too…

opps sorry nick didnt answer your question …..im using signlab 4.95 dated i know but its a good piece of kit i vcant fault it …dougs using flexi…hmm well im sure the didgy uses its own software but not sure what it is
-
Think you will struggle with that then Brian, best best is to get them to print out a chart for you mate. or try to use pantones.

Signlab 4.95 has no colour management nor does the vinyl version of V8 for that matter so you will always struggle I’m afraid. I use Corel for anything digitally or litho printed, it has reasonable colour management and although I think it is unlikely you will get things perfect it will be significantly better that SL. Export from SL as AI into Corel should be no problem. I use X4 but from V10 onwards (I think) had reasonable colour managent using profiles.

cheers guys as i say its no big deal its just wee stuff now and again but i will work around it its the same story if i print a proof out for someone the printer inks never really duplicate the monitor look

Brian what is knock hill and whats it about we may all want to come 🙄
Lynn

Knockhill is a motor racing circuit Lynn – It’s just over the Forth Bridge in Fife.
What did you think it was… 😉
-
knowing Brian I really had no idea I thought maybe you all rolled something "haggis" "cheese" "each other" down the side of a hill 🙄

I can see where you’re coming from though Lynn. At Easter time some people go out and roll eggs down a hill…
However, with the onset of global warming, Haggis have become an endangered species, and it’s now illegal in Scotland to roll one off a hill 😕 -
Where’s Peter tonight anyway? – I bet he’s down at the local steaming drunk and challenging everyone to fight him in the car park 😕

Just came in Phil
had a good scrap in the pub car park!

Phil,
Are you in the Big Brother House Diary Room??
They always have silly chairs in the diary room
-
You should be able to calibrate your own screen with your printer Brian, that will give you a better printout for yourself but I always make sure customers know that vinyl colours won’t match printed colours exactly.

Looks like the business end of a catapult to me, with the elastic stretching toward the camera.
Wot? 😕
