  • can anyone advise me on buying first plotter?

Posted by Martin J Baxter on November 25, 2009 at 2:14 pm

    Hi

I am looking at buying my first plotter but dont have a big budget – does anyone have any info on the Sable that GrafityP are advertising??

Is it similar to the Chinese cutters that I have read so much about?? I am pretty sure the service will be better than buying from e-bay

    Any help gratefully received

    Cheers

I’ve had a Jaguar 2 off Grafityp for 4 years now and still running fine so the product i would say are very good as a budget cutter

I would stretch the budget as much as possible and go for a graphtec, better to buy a quality machine from the start will save alot of problems later

I have been well pleased with my new Graphtec CE 5000-60.
It was about $1800 from my regular supplier. I could have got it cheaper but wanted to buy it from someone I knew.
I have previously run Gerber, and they are great, but very pricey.

Craig is that the Expert 24 plotter, if so it is exactly the same spec as the Sable.

If you are serious about sign work then a plotter is going to be the backbone of your business. When I started 15 years ago I bought a Roland 610mm for £2,200 – a fortune at the time. It has worked perfectly for all those years and I just sold it for £400.
    I now have a Graphtec 1220mm and a Summacut 610mm.
I would always buy the absolute best you can afford and certainly a popular brand name.
I have read many times of people who buy a cheap cutter then 6 months down the line end up buying a better one.
Yes, a 610mm Summa, Roland or Graphtec might be around £1100 but it will be a real investment for durability, usability, spares, and online help/knowhow.

I wish my Summa had been £1100 when I got it 7 years ago!
Anyway it’s been great, no problems and is a fast accurate cutter (watch this, it’ll break now)
