Posted by Simon Betty on 3 June 2008 at 14:08OK i have a Roland Camm1 CD-24, it hasn’t been cutting wright, small details the blade is not getting to the edge so I’m needing to use a Stanly knife n go over certain areas, so i changed the force to 200, and it has cu a tiny bit better but still not getting to the full edges, it does curves an letter O and 0’s OK, and its started to look like this..

change the blade and if its wrecking the vinyl that bad, the cutting strip has more than likely been damaged too.
You can see if the blade is blunt or not just put it under s decent magnifying glass -
ok mate will get the blade changed asap, any other reason tis not cutting to the edges? say i had a letter ‘W’ it wouldnt meat properly at the joint if that makes sence?

you should check the offset on the blade, it’s usually around 0.4 – 0.5mm, i recently changed my cutting strip too, has made a world of difference!

As big as that? What cutter you using Hugh.
All the cutters I’ve ever had have been 0.25, except Mimaki which are 0.3.

HI John,
use a summa d60, standard offset was about .40 i think.just popped in a ‘smartknife’ from ed mathias, they actually arrived about 2 weeks back, i fitted the new cut strip and promptly lost the packet with blades in during another big reshuffle, only found them again yesterday!
anyways, offset is recommended to be set at ,48mm. so far so good. need to give it a little more of a workout than i currently have, ie small text, but reckon they’re good so far.

Hi All
We have recently started using smart knives so far very good results on all size of text.
The guy at Mathias was very helpful and also gave a tip when cutting out labels don’t use flex cut but application tape the back of the vinyl then crank up the pressure on the knife to cut through the vinyl and backing but not the app tape keeping that smart knife just for this procedure . Properly a lot of you already know this tip dose it work as I have not tried it yet.Neil
