  • Camm-1 PNC 1000 – it doesn’t complete the job. Help please?

I recently acquired a camm-1 PNC 1000. I know its old, but I know roland is quality and should still be fine for a first cutter.
My problem is that I am having trouble setting it up. It will start to cut, the after a few lines just stop.
I have tried cutting from Corel and cut studio with the same results so I’m thinking it is the way I have setup my cutter as a "printer".
It must be a small tweak considering I am able to cut, just not do a complete job.

There are surprising not that many topics or videos around that actually show you the process of setting up the cutter.

    Help please.

Does the plotter just stop, or does it go nuts and start cutting rubbish?

Is the plotter connected via serial port or Parallel port?
If its connected via serial port, you need to go to your printer driver/port properties and make sure that the flow control for the com port is set for xon/xoff or hardware.
For some reason, windows seem to default to None for flow control after windows XP.

The plotter needs a way to tell the computer that its buffer is full and to stop sending data for a while.
Rolands use xon/xoff and hardware handshake to do this.
If the computer is set to NONE, it misses the handshake and the plotter starts cutting random garbage.

If its connected parralel, i have no idea.
If its connected usb to serial, your on your own.

    The plotter just stops.
I reinstalled the driver and made sure to change the flow. Still the same issue. I tried to write a word and it stops before it can finish the second letter. I am cutting directly from cut studio.

Are you using a usb to serial adapter? If so, its the culprit.
Cut Studio is excellant software. The PNC1000 is a great plotter.
The only issues with the pnc1000 is that it could not handle high speed parallel ports.
You had to make sure your computers parallel port was set in BIOS to SPP for Standard Parallel Port.
There were never any issues with REAL serial ports as found on older computers except that XP and up defaulted to NONE for handshake. The computer would keep sending data even when the plotter signaled it to stop.

Just noticed your in Canada. So am i , Ottawa.

    Thanks Frank,
I am using the serial that came with it. It has one serial on one end and 2 on the other. I am using the smaller one of the 2.
