  • Business insurance – who can you recommend?

    Hi all.

I need to set up business insurance but the companies I have spoken to thus far consider signage a "niche" activity – which I get the feeling is a rough translation for "let’s hike up the price". Is anyone using a reliable, reasonably priced company that understands the industry and would be able to share contact details for?

If you’re willing to share a ball park figure of what you pay per year, that would also be appreciated.

    Thanks everyone!
    Lauren.

Speak to Dan @ Spencer Hayes Insurance.

They provide a completely tailored policy, rather than a one size fits all policy.

Elite have a specific sign making policy and seems to cover every eventuality, but switched this year to NFU mutual who matched the policy for approx half the cost.

Yup – I would go elsewhere as you can hardly call signmaking a niche activity. Having said that, I took out personal sickness insurance years ago to cover my family if I was unable to work. The B’stards hiked the price skyward with the excuse that it was a high risk occupation because I would occasionally be working at height. A few years later I tried shopping around for a better deal but they’re all in it together saying it’s a high risk occupation. Good job I’m not a lion tamer or even a librarian (they have to climb up ladders to reach the books on the top shelf) otherwise I’d never get any sickness insurance cover 😕

Thanks all! I’m going to try your suggestions and if all else fails, I might tell them I’m a lion tamer… maybe that’s not as niche 😉

    Have a good day!

    Try your local NFU Mutual.
I looked at Elite and it is a good package if you need all the sections it covers, but NFU are very flexible and can sort something to suit an individual.
