brushed aluminium sheet supplier?
Posted by Jim McManus on 4 September 2006 at 09:28Hello everyone,
Does anyone know if there is a suitable substrate that has a brushed aluminium finish other than dibond. I am particularly looking for a small piece around 300mm x 400mm and so do not want to have to buy a whole 8 x 4 sheet. It is for a temp plaque outside a solicitors office.
Thanks

get in touch with one of the engraving substrate suppliers, you’ll get a substrate at a smaller size. Either ali or laminate don’t have any numbers to hand but Suregrave, Engravemet etcKev

have you considered using a brush finish vinyl to laminate a substrate that you do have in stock?
another alternative is to brush finish a piece of mill finish aluminum by hand using a sanding block.
I had to do this once and was pleasently supprised at how good the finish turned out to be.
remember though that aluminium will oxidize in time so for longer term use you may want to spray on a clear laquer.
have a great day!

Hi Rob,
Europoint don’t stock leboard anymore. They do have a brushed steel finish sheet, but that may be too dark.Hi Neil,
Never seen a brushed aluminium finish vinyl – would be interested if you know anyone who stocks though. May just end up brushing the plain ali as you suggest.Thank you.

You can buy brushed finish vinyl from
Hexis – product number CH8011 or P6870
telephone Hexis on 01543 411221
If you considering hand brushing aluminum then use a sanding block with an abrasive paper, the courser the grade of paper the more defined the brush lines will be.
best of luck

Jim,
Another option is to find a sheet metal workshop that have a linashing table which will brush the surface of the metal for you perfectly!

I think Spandex do a couple of brushed silver / aluminium finishes.
I’ve used their Gerber film in the past (polyester ‘vinyl’ – very thin), it’s great for printing & coating – cannot be used for cutting!! It’s probably in the ‘speciality’ range.
You might get a ‘sample’ 🙄 that will do the job!!
