Bonding or heat welding fluted polypropylene (like correx)
Hi everyone,
Does anyone know how I can bond / weld polypropylene fluted board together.
I make music stands and at the moment I am bonding a fold over section with 3M foam double sided tape. It effective, but I have seen fluted board "welded" together by what looks like a heat iron – the flower shape of the heat iron burnt through the first sheet and into the second creating a really strong weld – but I don’t know where to start sourcing the kit – any help really appreciated!

does it have to be a plastic welding/fusing system? Indisol do some very high bonding tape i used on the Santander project. stuck amazing but instantly and allowed flex/movement too.
as for the wleder, ide imagine companies like Leicster maybe doing them as thats who we bought our banner welder from and works on similar principle.
i.e. hot air melts both surfaces and crimps together to fuse on cooling. -

this is Indasol’s website. I dont know the name of the tape off-hand sorry, but if you explain what you are wanting to do with it with regards to correx, i am sure they will keep you right. The tape has a "mesh" within it, and is very hi-tack. have a play with it before trying on a real job because you wont get it seperated once its pressed into place.

i wouldnt go this route unless doing high volumes.
we purchased one of these about 6 years ago now and doesnt get used enough other than for BIG banners. we use tape for all else…
cost us about £1600 back then and you need the finishing kit "for banners" at an extra £300.

Billy, this might be another option for you, would increase the price but customers might like the fact that they could fold them away.

Wow Martin – sorry only just got onto my computer – long day in the workshop!!
That’s a really interesting link and has opened another door in a problem I had to solve – really interesting – I’m going to call them tomorrow and see if it will work.

By the way – these are the stands I make – mostly cut vinyl fronts – or I send out for colour digital vinyl prints that I mount myself.
The welding I need a better solution for is on the tops – you can’t see it very well in the image here – but it’s the top bit that bends back to hold the music.
Do either of you wrap graphics – I was wondering if I could wrap the base units as an option for some clients.
