  • Board Cutter supplier & advice

    Good Morning!

Could anyone point me in the right direction to a good supplier of board cutters? We’re ideally looking for one that will cut any type of board including di-bond and perhaps one that is vertical that we can put on the wall. Cost is obviously an issue but we are looking for one that will last!

    Thanks

We have a Fletcher wall cutter which will do what you ask but we’re not super keen on it but perhaps that is because of the work which we do. As we are a digital shop that does lamination and mount with a laminator, we’ve found that wall cutters, for us, are only appropriate to get basic rough cuts done. For our work we can’t use a wall cutter for finished cuts as the chances of the substrate and mounted artwork being completely aligned with each other are next to nil no matter how hard we try. With that being said, we do basic cuts on our wall cutter and we do finishing cuts on a Keencut Javilin which is a table top cutter which uses a craft blade. Anyway, the point of this dul, never-ending ramble is that a wall cutter seems to be able to cut more substrates than a table top unit but in my experience a bench mounted cutter can be just as useful depending on the type of work you do. Of course, I could be full of shit.

Sorry guys we have one of these keencut machines ok for straight lines of soft material but no use for dibond or thicker materials and no use for wood, no good for perfect right angles either.

    Spend the dough

    http://www.sawtrax.com

Can do intro for you with money off voucher

Any other opinion about the Excalibur 5000 and the option to cut dibond??

We’ll check the sawtrax in a near future when we’ll get an industrial nave.

    thank you.

Hi Adrian, that sawtracks looks very good. Did you have one shipped from the states or is there a uk distributor ?

Had it shipped to us direct from the States, seem to remember is was about $600 plus import duty and VAT. I could check if you were really interested. Couple of bits were dented in the shipping one wasnt critical but the other was but they replaced it free of charge. Wouldnt buy their blades though as we didnt find the very suitable for dibond acrylic and foamex but have since worked out the best balde to buy which we buy from screwfix. Dont recommend the extra powerful vacuum facility either as neither the standard of super version work worth tuppence, we just sweep up after use.

They actually offered us distribution rights in UK but at the time we werent on signboards and didnt see any interest

I have just ordered an excalibor too. Had a demo last week, cuts mdf, diabond, aluminium, foamex and colorbond with very good results. You can also add a glass cutting option, although I am not going down that path.

They are $A4000 here in OZ but with that and my 2500mm kleencut javelain, I should be covered for all my requirements.

    Cheers

I emailed Sawtrax about buying their saw, and got a quick response to say they will work out a price shipped to my door, then heard nothing. That was end of last year. 🙁

Just looked at the Saw Trax website, it looks almost to good to be true!

Adrian: what type do you have, are there any things you don’t like about the machine, do you use the knife kit?

Dave: Did you get any response? Did you buy something else?

    Anyone else using Saw Trax?

    Thanks

Yes we got tje knife kit but have never really used i, dindt realy rate it (the whole machine isnt much use for 2mm and 3mm foamex and thin boards like that it is much better for dibond 5MM materials wood etc

The right angles are perfect every time

Got to admit that comparing ours to the Axminster H5 I think someone has copied someone else, there ar small differences but really only cosmetic. I think the Axminster is a good price especially when you compare delivery costs
