My blade on my cutter is making dashed lines instead of smooth ones. I called the company I got my cutter from and they said to turn the speed down. So now it makes dashed lines at a much slower rate (:) Any ideas? Cutter is a JSI P24

It will cut smoothly if its cutting a up and down line, but lines that run parallel with the machine skips, if you get what Im saying…

Is it lifting between each dash, or is the blade just skimming or bouncing along the material?

Look for debris, either on the rollers or on the belt.

The blade doesnt lift it just skims along and bounces off the material like you said.

check your nylon cutting strip… thats the strip your blade comes down to meet when its cutting. if it is indentated you will probably need a new cutting strip.
these are cheap as chips and take 10 minutes to cleand and fit mate…

Mine looked fresh I flipped it over and tested it on that side with the same result

ive never heard of one being flipped mate… but maybe in states they have double sided ones? 😕

    ok, try this….

take your blade "out" the holder… clean holder
    clean blade….
clean blade holder barrell…. if possible…
take some oil and let it trickle inside the holders barrle….
(dont touch blade "tip" by the way)
let it run some little jobs to get the blade PIN spinning again…

    it should work! 😕

you will find that some blade barrles dry out… when the blade pin should spin it just sticks MID-spin and ends up turning half way. resulting in a dragging "sideways" blade. this causes a dotted/perfirated type line.

    Kaeon,

Use an oil that will keep its viscosity like a 3-1 silicone based lubricant.

How old is the cutter? I think you need a new blade holder.

Most of the blade holders are based on small ball bearings that give it movement. If on bearing goes out of shape thru enough wear, the thing is irrepairable. Be quicker and easier to buy a new one

I get this problem now, perhaps not as pronounced as you but I only seem to get it with the new LG chem vizuon, the old stuff was great but this new formula seems a step backwards, why not try a different vinyl say mactac (i dont have a problem with that) does this still happen

Shanes on the money here. I had a roland that did the same thing, changed the knife carrier and problem solved.

I have just started having this problem on my p-cut 630….

Changed the blade and blade holder, ran slower speeds, flipped the cutting strip but still the problem persisted…

fine cutting vertical lines and fine cutting horizontal lines when the head was traveling right to left, but when coming back left to right I was getting perforated lines which wasted me vinyl…..

tried changing the vinyl from t-shirt vinyl to sign vinyl and cut cleanly…

Is it possible that the vinyl I was having trouble with had a ‘grain’ problem in one direction that caused the the blade to skip, turned around the vinyl and it was still there but considerbly better!

    anyone else had this problem?

    Hello Russ,
There may be other reasons however the one thing that I know which does cause this problem is a broken tip on your blade. You say the blade cuts in one direction correctly however not on the return cut.
This gives me a clue to the answer.
The tip is rotated when returning. Then most likely the broken side of the tip is used. As it is a drag knife – that is what this type of knife is called the dragging of the broken tip causes skipping.
Examine the tip of your blades under a magnifying glass. Blades must be treated with care. Cutting strips with any cut lines or marks in them must be replaced immediately if you want good quality cutting. Turning them over can in some cases can worsen the problem. Buy a new one.

There is one other thing that may cause skipping and that is dirt inside the blade holder prevents the blade turning. Or I have seen damage to the side of a blade due to it being held in a pair of pliers. Why would you use pliers to FORCE a blade into a blade holder? Yes, I have seen this! If the blade does not turn easily then skipping can possibly occur as well.
    Hope this helps!
