  • Black converting to CMYK

Posted by Warren Beard on 23 March 2010 at 17:19

    Hi

I am having a problem with the black, I change it to 100% K but won’t stay like that, I close and re-open the file and it has changed back to CMYK and when it prints it is pooling the ink as there is nearly 400% ink lay down, I have tried saving as EPS etc but keeps doing the same thing and it’s making me mad, anybody had this before in Illy?

    cheers

Warren, are you printing direct or through a rip?

through a rip Peter, but it’s before it even gets to the rip, I re-open it to check (even quit Illy and rebooted) and it keeps converting back, the strangest thing now it is is becoming random, some stay 100% K and some change to CMYK.

    Freeking weird.

Check to make sure the file isn’t set up as RGB. If it is, it will keep changing the
    values on re-opening.

Tried that, even tried changing the colour and then re-opening and changing back to black, then re-open again to check and it’s CMYK 😕

I just copied and pasted in to a new document and when it pasted it in to the new document it changed from K to CMYK, I changed it back to K and then closed, re-opened and now it’s all remained in 100% K 😕

So I got over it now but what the …..

hope that’s the end of that as it’s never happened before?

    Cheers
