A bad day for 3M, RP45 VHB tape! – Biocide Paint
Well we all have to have a bad day once in a while.
We fitted some 10 and 20mm foamex letters inside a gym. Not overly big (see photo below) in the middle of January. Using the RP45 tape from signgeer. And it stuck. As it does.
However an N decided a few days later to hit the deck. So we replaced start of feb with a new letter, more RP45 (we basically flood coat the backs in this) and packed out any small indents in the wall with 3mm foamex to make sure all the letters had full bond. Clearly shown by photo. Which we thought was the problem.
Last night it all fell down. Customer is not a happy chappy. Now being re-cut and going on stand off locators, which we had provided a quote for but VHB tape was a cheaper option.
Read the back of there paint tin today. It has biocide in, which apparently stops or repeals moss/mold etc..
Has anyone else come across this? Is this the problem? Signgeer reckon so. And I agree with them. Or are we missing something? Was there something we didn’t do that we should of? All the tape is still stuck to the back of the letters. Didn’t even take any paint with them. It’s an internal wall so not even that cold. There’s and electrical depot for A big firm on the other side of the wall, so I can’t imagine it’s vibration central on the other side. Certainly not at 11:45pm when they jumped ship.
Done over 50 of these, a lot of which are repeat customers so I do see them from time to time and all look as stuck as the day they went up.
