I simply cannot understand the logic in printing billboards.

you can print a 2×6 foot banner for anything from £30-£85. why on earth is a 10×20 foot billboard only worth £120.00 wheres the sense in this??? I know 2 printers selling them for this kind of price. the other guy was in at 220. this simply does not make any sense at all whatsoever. I can image this would take forever on my versacamm sp300.

    😕 😕 😕

Every town, city, village has these idiots. Totally devaluing the industry. Tomorrow they will go bust taking other legitimate businesses with them because of their lack of foresight. Makes my blood boil.
I had one clown call me in for a quote on a billboard. He said I had to keep my price keen to get the job. When I asked him why he didn’t use the last guy that did the job he answered……"He’s gone bust!"

I didn’t get the job, someone more desperate than me got it!

    Go figure! 🙄

I Just think its pathetic. the wallpaper trade is far better. I still think even for these clowns how on earth are they making any money in the first place. After the media cost and the time of doing the actual printing whats even left??? I had to check 3-4 times that the price was right with this printer that i know and then i thought they must be using some other printing machine. turned out it was simply a wide format. I just didn’t get it 😕

    What would you charge Stuart?

No point in worrying about it, even banners can be bought by the public for less than £10 per square m
people actually do make money selling at these prices. but you wont/cant compete with a small machine,
if you have a printer running 24 seven turning out material then as long as the margins are reasonable then why not?
it doesnt devalue the market its called competition. supply and demand.
every man and his dog can now own a printer for a few quid a week.

If you charge £200 for a banner but only sell one a week then you will not make as much as the company that charges £40 but sells 50 a week.

people will pay for good quality, but its convincing them your quality and service is worth paying for.

Ok some may be busy fools, and some will go bust. but that isnt lways because they are selling cheaper than their competitors.

its a numbers game, ask easyjet 😀 and Ryan air

    😀

well for a 20×10 i’d look at about £250.00. I think peter has a point. It would take me far longer on an sp300 and may not really be worth doing. think i’ll stick to my banners 🙂

No disrespect meant here Stuart, but if you are looking at charging £250 for that job printing £13.80 per square metre using a versacamm sp300, then I am afraid you would also be a busy fool mate. And I mean that in the best possible way… forget this job and move on…

Those pricing against you Stuart… Are they running the same machines and paying roughly same on inks? If the answer is yes, then let them batter in and wave them goodbye when they go bust in a few months time. forget them… move on and spend your energy on the customers that are willing to pay, instead of those that are not.

“I wouldn’t” consider taking on this job, certainly NOT at that price anyway, however, our Roland AJ740 would print that billboard in about 22 minutes if my calculations are correct. I will also be paying less for my inks than you…
So yes, if you have the right machinery, it possible and to make money, but billboard printing is also normally done in volume, not a one off.
And believe me there are bigger, faster machines running cheaper inks on the market than what I have. So it could just be your up against someone more geared for this line of work.

my sums were wrong actually… think its closer to 24 minutes to print that 20′ x 10′ billboard in billboard mode on an the AJ740. :lol1:

    anyway…. no… sorry Stuart.
