Bevelled Edges & Corner Cutting on sign boards?
Posted by fluidedge on 19 February 2004 at 18:41We’re going to need to buy some basic tools for corner cutting and bevelling.
For foamex, plastics, wood etc.
What do you guys recommend and why?

We have a corner rounder which cost us over £100 but is quite a simple device. It works with a guillotine action using a die to cut a radius corner in foamex, (up to 10mm thickness) and even Dibond (No good for acrylic though). It finishes the signs off very nicely and having used one I wouldn’t be without it anymore.

ill try add more to this one later mate. as phill said though a corner rounder is a great tool. gives a lovely finish to signs and the like.
the one phill has i would imagine much better than the 2 small ones we have. they only put a 1/4 inch radious on the corner but does take the sharp edge off brill. the sign looks so much more finished.
only difference i see with our wee ones is they trimmed metal upto 2 mm.
we bought these years ago and have lost the source. they were about 50 quid each and one is now broke ofter many years. i think they are self sharpening 🙄
jag sign supplies does a few but like the one phill discribes are costly.
i geuss you get what you pay for though. 100mm cutting action sounds good to me. -
As far as bevelling is concerned, I would imagine a hand held router is the best option. Mainly because there are about 10 squillion different blades available to make decorative mouldings, edges etc.
Is that what you meant?

I looked briefly at getting a bevelling machine for my engraved signs mainly but they were £400 touch so I stick with just giving the edges a deburr with a little block plane – works fo me atm.

You’re dead right mate, we do need one.
Once the printing press is installed next month, a router (probably second hand) will be near the top of the shopping list.
