I`d go the generator too. I got one off ebay which is more than up to the job.

Just a tad heavy if i`m on my own.

    Cheers

i have a dewalt 2000w heat gun, when i did a mobi mechanics van, he said to plug it into his 1500w generator, the thing nearly pooped itself and the gun barely got warm, so… be prepared t fork out for a good 2.5kw generator, not a cheapy on.

a ciggy lighter wouldn’t run it! if you could get a 12v gun, i think you’d find that it’ll either not get hot enough, or will kill the battery in no time.

i have a heavy duty 50m extention lead. it can usually find power!

Well you can get 3000 w inverters, not sure what amps they would need on the 12v side.

enough to melt your car’s wiring… (hot)

    Watts = Amps x Volts…..Amps = Watts / Volts

tell the customer that price has just doubled.

should then be enough hot air to do the job 😉

I paid £80 for a NUTOOL 2.4KW generator. Not the best make but good enough for the use it gets from us. I wouldn`t be without it now.

I know Macro have similar deals occasionally.

Mike I’d go with a genny too. I bought one a few years ago for less than £200 and I couldn’t live without it. Great for heatguns, SDS drills, charging batteries, floodlights etc etc. Its got 110 and 240v. Paid for itself over and over.

I was speaking to an auto-electrician today and he said he could rig an inverter in my 1.7 corsa diesel that you could run a snack bar from lol.

He said, "a heat gun"? No problem.

James, its possible to run an arc welder from a small engine, the alternator is replaced with a larger unit, but the total output cannot be greater than the power available at the pulley that drives the unit.
what it means in layman’s terms is you cant get out more than you put in.

hmmm i heard it said once from an electrician ….dont know if its true or not that you can actually damage equipment if you have to long an extension leed ….not that bursting a heat gun is the end of the world just a thought

    Hi Peter,

    I think I understand.

Does that mean that its not the full power of the engine recharging the battery at idling speed?
