What is the best way to align flat cut lettering when using double sided tape?
With stand-offs it’s easy with a template but not sure of this method.

Removable vinyl template you can stick down and peel off when letters are stuck in place.

That’s how I do it anyway.

we print onto vinyl backing paper reverse side and then cut out and use that! similar to warrens but cheaper!! also print a box that you can trim to around the whole design makes easier for alignment and leveling etc.

    cheers

I don’t know, cheap removable vinyl is about £1.20 a meter, cut, weed and tape must be quicker than loading and printing backing paper and cutting out the letters by hand? If a few pence more it must still be quicker and easier to use vinyl?

we let the machine cut out, just add more pressure and bobs your uncle!
you get a few ragged edges but its only for fitting! lets have a race!!

ah, I thought you cut it by hand. Still not sure I prefer the method though even if slightly cheaper, vinyl goes down and stays down in place while you line the letters up. I’ll have that race, surely must be quicker to cut, weed and tape apposed to loading and printing and cutting?

I’m curious now, damnnit, now I’m probably going to test that theory 😕 🙄 :lol1:

I’ve got loads of old removable vinyl in stock so I’ll give it a go. I guess it might be an idea to make the stencil outlines a tad oversize?

I add 0.5mm all around as it does help, don’t make it too big though otherwise I find "O"’s harder to line up 100% straight.

Once you done it once you’ll see how easy it is

(I also use all my temp vinyl is stock, just don’t use white if going on a white background, use a contrasting colour as it helps)

    cheers

have to agree with warren this time! don’t add too much or it can get tricky! it is a really easy method to apply!

If straight line of text then it must be simplest to snap a thin chalk line where the lettering should go and stick down by eye.

You could put the paper layout above if you are needing extra help.

If you are unsure of upright then have a T square line the edges up using the edge of your sign.

Thats how i do it anyway

If you dont have a chalk line then a strip of masking tape will be ok.

    🙂

I always did it the same way as Warren so your out numbered Dan , letters cut just oversize so no vinyl gets trapped under the DS tape. :lol1:

Not even sure Dans way is cheaper either, there must be a risk of blade damage cutting it out of old backing paper.
