Best stencil masking film for painted brickwork?
Posted by John Dorling on 10 June 2014 at 14:03I have a job to do involving painting through a cut vinyl stencil onto painted brickwork. The overall size will be about 3m x 1.2m. Can anyone recommend a good masking vinyl for this type of surface?
Thanks
John

Thanks Paul. Nice job by the way. I’m trying to avoid bleed if possible! Have read a few posts on here about going over the stencil with the background paint colour first to ‘seal’ it which makes sense. I’ve been doing a bit of research and the Oracal stencil film is described as being ‘especially good’ for uneven surfaces. Sounds great, but RH will only sell me a full 50m roll!

I got samples from RH & the stencil film they were selling was avery not oracal John so it may well be an avery paint mask film. If that’s the case then you should be able to buy else where.

I have used the Oracal lots of times for spray painting marquees, and its very good.
There are actually two versions, the 810 for water based paints and the 810S resists most solvents. The water based one is far more sticky and flexible and easier to use. -
Thanks for the replies. Just out of interest Simon what sort of paint do you use for doing the marquees?
Kind regards
John

John we use screen printing ink meant for vinyl stickers thinned down for spraying.

We use Oramask, too. It is the best one we have tried so I also recommend it.
