  • Best software to run our Grenadier ??

Posted by Adrian Neill on 21 July 2010 at 12:55

    Good afternoon everyone.

We’ve been running our Grenadier from FlexiSign as that is the program that comes with the printer. I’ve never been a massive fan of the program, but it did the job ‘most’ of the time.

Just recently the program has become unstable and unpredictable so we’ve been thinking of getting a different program to print from.

Could anyone suggest a good program that will run our Grenadier ??

We do use Omega v2.5 and Corel Draw X4 if that makes any difference ??

    Cheers in advance. 😉

depends how old it is. as to be able to run versaworks FOC.
    or colourrip FOC
or pay £2000 ish for something else
i still love colour rip and can see no point in paying to change.

Hi Chris …. thanks for your reply.

We did get the COLORIP with the printer but have never got to grips with the program and not 100% certain on how to use it if i’m honest.

If this is the best one and we’ve already got the program then maybe I should have a stab at giving this program a go.

Colour Rip is a cut down version of Wasatch Rip, which in my opinion is still one of the better rips out there. It just takes a bit of getting used to. We use Onyx, Wasatch and Versaworks my favorite and the one that causes me the least problems is Wasatch (Colour RIP).

    Give it a go.

I use both Versaworks and colorip/wasatch and find Wasatch to be very good, you can get an upgrade from colorip to the Roland only Wasatch with cut module that’s a very good price.

you have to set up the 4 modules first (or at least one of the modules)
    I have mine as

1 – best print setting, cut included
2 – production print setting, cut included
    3 – cut only
    4 – Print, laminate, cut

I found it easy to set up once I got my head around the settings.

Just be careful of how old the printer is. Get in touch with Roland UK, they will still take to you about the printer and let you know which rip supports it.

Thanks for everyones help …. I tried the COLORIP and I can’t believe we’ve not used it before. The colour matches come out much better than using the FlexiSign RIP and it’s not ‘that’ bad to use. I’m still playing with the settings. I think we’re going to have a good look at this ‘Wasatch’ too.

Only thing I can’t seem to work out just yet is ….. how do I get it to cut round the outline ?? I’ve put a cut line around the object in Flexi and it appears to open with that cut-line as I have a ‘dotted’ border around the shape but it doesn’t seem to send to cut ….. Is there something I need to tick somewhere ??

    😀

In Wasatch and I think it is the same in colour rip, put a keyline around the area to cut make it a spot colour and call the spot colour cutcontour, the rip should then pick it up.

There’s a few tick boxes you have to tick to make it cut, hard to describe without going through it, you only tend to do it once and then forget what you did 🙂

If I get time later I’ll check through Wasatch and let you know which dialogs you need to use.

all guess work from memory here mate but…
we have a grenadier too… one of the originals and came with TROOP RIP which i beleive is a watered down & re-badged version of Flexisign pro.
that being the case, if you have flexisign and now finding glitches, would a fresh install of your software, and then install of the TROOP profiles not do the job anyway?

as has been said, depending on machine age/model versaworks is an excellent option.
alternatively ide look at wasatch as this is one i have been considering too seeing as our grenadier is too old for versaworks.

Having tried both the old Troop and colorip and Wasatch I definatly found Colorip/Wasatch to give MUCH better print results, gradients are smoother and there is better control of the print passes etc.

Thanks so much for everyones help and sharing your experience. This site is worth its weight in gold.

With a very helpful phone conversation with Chris and some ‘Googling’ i’ve now managed to get COLORIP to print and cut great. I’m already finding it a lot better than Flexisign and certainly a lot more stable. I think i’ve lost count of the amount of times I’ve had to re-load Flexisign in the past.

We may look into the Wasatch program at a later date. 😀

Wasatch for me, gives the best results and works faultlessly (used for about 4 years now).
