  • Best ‘budget’ type cast wrapping vinyl…

Posted by chrisfoster on 20 July 2011 at 13:42

As above I have customer who has a 2003 Astra Van and the paint has faded quite badly. He doesnt want to get it painted etc, instead he wants to get it wrapped a different colour.

I’ve only ever used the Hexis Hexpress and 85 series cast but before quoting are there any other manufacturers that offer cheaper cast vinyl but still with the air systems within them? I dont want it to be too cheap and make it difficult for myself to fit.

Colour wise at the moment he is after a dark gloss grey / anthracite

    Cheers
    Chris

Avery supreme comes in a nice anthracite. And it’s proper wrap vinyl. Cheaper than Hexis too I think.

Brilliant thanks John, who are the best suppliers of the Avery vinyl? (never used it before!). Does it have the ‘air’ type system as well?

    Thanks

Yes it has air release. I get it from Spandex. I think it’s only in 1370mm though. Should be plenty for most jobs.

cheers for that, just spoken to them and they dont have any in stock :(, and it was quite dear the Avery stuff!

What other suppliers except for William Smith would stock the 3M 85 series? They are out of stock as well!!!

    quote John Dorling:

Its more than double the cost of Hexis.

There isn’t really anything cheaper than the Hexis AFAIK.

No disrespect intended here mate, but…
we are talking around £10 of a difference max, per linear metre, no matter which brand of vinyl you use. there for, your customer needs a reality check, or you should seriously look at your own pricing structure.

    my advice…
buy the best brand that you are most comfortable using.
price to you should not come into it here… we are talking like 2 linear metres.
then stick around £100 on it for fitting the bonnet vinyls.

if this is way out your customers price range then maybe he should look at getting on a proper respray.

as i said, i am not trying to be rude or negative. but unless you approach wrap work in the proper fashion, price etc. then you will be left pulling your hair out further down the line whilst devaluing a skilled aspect of our trade.

as i said, give or take £10, is all the difference per linear metre of vinyl.
if the customer isnt willing to pay that, you shouldn’t waste your time with them.

just my personal opinion mate, sorry…

I see where you are coming from Robert and respect that, problem is that he is a sort of ‘friend’ of the family so basically doing it for him on the cheap. I’ve already said to him get the blimmin thing blown over on the cheap by a bodyshop and i’ll just signwrite it but he’d rather it be wrapped….

Any other usual punter i’d tell them exactly as you say, just its a bit awkward with this one!!
