  • Bending Acrylic for some desk plaques

Posted by Matthew Chittenden on 4 July 2011 at 12:40

    Hi all,

This might be a bit of a newbie question, i have a job where i need to bend some white 3mm acrylic into table plaques A5 size portrait, there will be only 1 bend in each to create an a frame desk sign. Any ideas how i go about bending the acrylic, i have no special machinery, am i better off out sourcing?

    Thanks
    Matt

    Did this back at school.

The machine we had was a bit like a long thin toaster. You held the acrylic over the opening and the heat would soften the plastic.

That’s a very simple description. Whether a blow lamp would do it I don’t know and I wouldn’t try it with the risk of burning & bubbling.

Give Flooreda a ring 0161 442 3551, I’ve used the before for making up stencils for a client.

Used to to a good bit of this years ago with a hot wire bending machine. Don’t have one nowadays though:
