Been offered a 2nd hand plotter. How much should I pay?
Posted by Gwaredd Steele on 19 August 2011 at 11:55Hi all.
I’ve been offered a 2nd hand 48" Roland plotter ( CAMM1 CM500 I believe) to replace my CM300 but am unsure of what prices 2nd hand plotters go for.
Any ideas what to offer? Machine is in good working order.
Cheers,
Gareth.

whatever you think its worth mate. If it suits your needs, and you have a budget, start there first and see what the owner says. I’d be starting low though, as second hand machines could have problems, so you may have to factor in a repair as well

roland, summa, graphtec… all workhorse cutters and run for years…
however, its like buying a car….
how many miles has the engine done?
how much wear and tear on the parts?
if its an old machine, does the suppliers still offer replacement parts off the shelf?
the old PC60-600’s spring to mind… folk buying printers that they think are a good deal at £500, but then unable to source parts. if they can, they pay a fortune for them.
vinyl cutters are your bread and butter… personal opinion is to always buy new. even the best brands costs "start" around £1000. that’s only 4 transit vans lettered and you’ve made your money back.
not to mention peace of mind to run your business, support, warranty and so on…i know this is just a secondary machine for you etc im just outlining the obvious to keep in mind. 😀

Seen the previous model CX500 on fleabay a couple of times make £750 to 1K.
CM500 replaced the CX
GX500 replaced the CMYou can still get parts as they have not changed the basic build of the unit.

Cheers guys. The idea is to go from my current 760mm machine to the larger 1220mm one, as it’s a pain when you get those 765mm windows to cover :lol1:
I’ll be keeping my existing machine as it’s identical in every way except size. As the machine will be coming from a colleague (read competitor that I get on well with) I think I’ll go in with a cheeky bid of £500 & take it from there.
Thanks again.
