Very good Rebecca, what printer are you using?
What format was the original artwork supplied in and
last but least what resolution was it printed at? 😉

    Hi

    We have a JV3 2.5metre printer.

Ronan and Sugababes printed on Avery Vinyl at 720dpi covered in grafitti film, pretty sure the files were supplied in pdf format.

Banner probably printed at 360dpi again pdf format.

    excellent work rebecca… very nice.
its always good to get handed ready to print artwork. i find with digital printing its a case of load and print then walk away…

how are you finding profiles for the jv3? are they easy to come by or are you limited?
do you feel, now that you have the huge width that maybe a print and cut model would have been good for smaller stuff and van graphics with contour cut etc
just being nosey.. as i have 54inch wide now but i can actualy see why the wider would be a great option too.. but still feel the contour cut is a must for us.

oh and, have you come across any good suppliers for banner material that can be printed onto?

many thanks for taking the time to share your work 😀

    Robert

The profiles are a little limited for the 2.5m as they need to be different from the 1.6m (about twice as many for the 1.6metre). Its not too bad for us as we are only using avery vinyl which is all profiled correctly.

As for the width, alot of our work is banner, and for one of our customers that we supply to it was this width or no work from him as his banners vary from 572mm wide up to 2.4metre wide by various lengths. We dont tend to use the full width a great deal but find that we can usually repeat multiple copies across the width or rotate narrow prints to come out of the width. We currently use vinyl at 2metres wide so can normally get many copies out to utilise the material.

A print and cut would be useful but as you see we really had to go for this bigger width to gain alot of banner work, luckily my staff are good at hand cutting!!

We are using vuflex banner material at the minute but have been sent samples from Lows of Dundee, Flex Europa, A&P Display and more recently had chats with Hexis,Oce Graphics and Pyramid. Its surprising how suppliers suddenly seem to know that you have a digital printer and come knocking at the door!!

We are currently wrapping our own van in between work at the moment so I will post some pics of the progress so far as well as some customer vans we have done. We are lucky that we dont tend to get too involved in the design side of the work so most jobs come artwork ready.

    Nice work there Rebecca
Yeh , we too find a zillion folk knocking on our door with samples , schemes , and other digital print doo-dahs.
Amazing what range of digital printing media there is out there and how many new products are coming out , hence my somewhat “dismissive” attitude to concerns of whether you can print on this or that type sign vinyl.
We find that most of our stuff comes ready to print from ad agencies etc , except for cut lines and layout etc.
Robert , we also were looking at larger format but a few things put us off , firstly availability of media in grand format , secondly handling that media and the large prints and space considerations , thirdly price , and most importantly for US was the fact that we cant lam that wide (we only have a 1.6m lam machine) and the final nail in the coffin was a pic sent to us by one of the bigger operations in town in a promotion of their services of their 3.5m or 5m machine with a lonely sad 610 roll of vinyl being printed 😉
I would love the capability tho.

Rodney – What amazes me is the amount of suppliers who we have never had any dealings with that find out you have a larger printer and who would not have dealt with you when our business was classed as a smaller operation.
I have had more reps in to see me at work in the last 6 months than probably in the last 2/3 years.

Like you say handling the media is a bit of a pain, the banner roll at 2.5metre wide is 65metres in length and very weighty, with two people its still a struggle!

Not as much fun as we had when the printer was installed, five people and still hard work!!

Luckily the printer is keeping busy and thats without too much promoting.

Robert – What banner material are you currently using, what about self adhesive?

As promised some vans we have done, again all layouts supplied by customer.
