Banner printing – SP-540V ???
Posted by Michael Szwacki on 29 July 2010 at 14:42Hello everyone.
Quick question
Can I print straight on banners on my SP-540V?TBH I have never used anything else than IJ40; IJ380 and IJ25 so I have absolutely no idea what else can I print on.
I’m using Eco-Sol max Roland’s inks.If yes – what banner material should I be looking (any supplier recommendations)
Thank you

You certainly can. I’ve gone through hundreds & hundreds of metres of banner material.
The SOYANG from Victory Design performs very well and is well priced.
Try a roll of budget & a roll of premium.

Exact same printer as you.
I use 40 series and also print banners.
I’ve had good results with the banner material from Dorolook under banner on the left, then D banner 500, 550gsm satin.
Prints really nice and the roll doesn’t stick to itself like some others I’ve had.
I don’t know if it’s really necessary but I keep some unrolled while printing.

I always pre-feed banner off the roll as its too heavy for the machine to cope with and end up with a motor feed error or something similar and the jobs scrapped, I also raise the head to the high position for banners.
Also i use the longer media clamps on the edgeSteve

as steve says, make sure the head height is put to the max and use the longer roll feeder/clamps on the edges. if your going to cut the banner via the machine, make sure you swap over to the shorter clamps on the edges or you will strike the blade against the longer clamps!

Fantastic, Thank you guys.
Can you tell me how long is the banner gonna resist outside in our weather conditions?
What about mesh banners?
What are you using to folding/welding edges?Mike

we use banner tape, we don;t have a sewing machine or welder. we use mesh for buildings/scaffolding sue to wind factors. outdoor use banner material 13oz usually, indoor you can get away with 10oz. banner material outdoors….it depends on location, what the weather is like in that area and how the banner will be used>>> is it taken down often and put up? how is it stored?? etc etc

I’ve had some banners outdoors for over 2 years – still fine.
Mesh – has its place – especially for exposed LARGE installations.
Folding, eyelets: Banner tape & brass eyelet punch…works fine. Just a 35mm hem all the way round – PRINT IT as part of the job – SO much easier!!
Tried sewing initially but it actually weakened the materials due to the perforations.
