  • Banner material, eyeleter and banner tape – Help

    Hi all,

Well, the startup has happened at last and me and Rick have left the warm bosom of Fastsigns to start on our own.

Today’s question is that of a decent banner material. We will be using cut vinyl on this only (no printer as yet) and just need to know where to look.

A couple of weeks ago we got a letter at fastsigns from some firm selling 440gsm material – 50m roll @1300mm ish for £100. Did anyone else get this, and who were they? Is it any good? If not, where should I be looking.

We also need an eyeletter. I have seen plenty of these, all around the £150 mark, and wondered if anyone had any recommendations?

Lastly, banner tape for hemming. Anyone?

    I don’t want much do I?

    Cheers for now,

    Jim

    Hi Jim

Personally I would say unless you will be doing lots of banners I would buy Banana banner which already has eyelets and is hemmed, you simply apply the vinyl. Alternatively sub out for a printed banner and add on a mark-up, free’s you up to find other work 😉

    Just my 2p worth :lol1:

Nothing wrong with doing banners in vinyl as opposed to print, I buy blank banners in from trounce, finished with welded hems and welded eyelets, cheap enough not to bother with your own finishing, unless you are doing large quantities.

Yeah, I see what you guys mean, but we’ve got plenty of time on our hands at the moment and really need to maximise profit so I think that buying roll/eyeletter/tape is best for now.

We didn’t do a massive amount of banners at Fastsigns, but they wouldn’t have dreamed of buying in when we could make ourselves. They used Xerox 550 banner but I’ll be damned if I can find a price on the web.

    Cheers,

    Jim

    How do,

I don’t blame you for wanting to finish banners yourself, it’s easy.
Go to DTP supplies (http://www.dtpsupplies.com/) and have a look what you can get.
I wouldn’t lose much sleep over an eyeleter, unless you’re doing loads the overarm variety will be fine. Once you have one you can put an eyelet wherever the punter wants one. You can even put them in 5mm foam if you want, handy for hanging signs.

Hemming with tape is fairly cheap and easy too, just don’t forget to cost it into your quote. Double sided sticky tape, wallop, maybe finish off with an applicator to get as much pressure as poss onto the tape.

Banner material itself comes in loads of varieties and can be had from about 60 quid a roll, for vinyl I wouldn’t be wanting the finished side to be too rough though. Get some samples, start off with the cheapest and see how you get on.
Good luck in your new venture!

    Ste.

    Hi Jim,

I get banner material from Grafityp (good range and cheap!). As for the eyeleting machine, try VKF Renzel. Eyelets I get from Atwel -www.eyelets.co.uk (they might be good to the eyeleting machine aswell).
