Banner Finishing

I send my banners to Boldscan to be finished, if you hem the banners yourself, would you sew or weld them or is there another option?

Where would you get the equipment to finish banners yourself?

we have a banner welder from liester, fuses with hot air, no adhesive etc.
costs £2000 for setup and you need to asign large table and guides to do it right.

easiest option i have found is using banner tape for hemming, you can buy it from grafytyp. once hemmed just get your hands on an eyelet machine cost about £200 or about £40 for a hand held punch setup.

other option, is stiching by machine, i dont fancy that, but does a good job.

Can anyone recommend a good eyelet machine?

We bought the manual die and punch thing but it`s no good for large orders and i`ve hit my thumb twice while pounding on the fricken things. trying to answer a phone while Steve is deafening us all with the hammer and punch is a little draconian. 🙁

Basically we`re looking for an automated machine that will punch holes and press the eyelets?

Is there such a thing and if so, whats the best and where can i buy one?

We used a double sided tape for a while but after 6 months or so it started coming away arghh loads of customers coming back! Not sure who supplied it to be honest or whether it was intended for long term use so now we outsource the hem & eyelet but its costly, more due to dispatch and delivery charges as the process is charged at £5pm per sq mtr. I would be interested in the tape from grafytyp, does anyone have experience using it?

we sew, we have strong sewing machines.
Hand welders are just too fiddly for banners and can make a mess.
We also eyelet.

I use POWERTABS which is a self adhesive grommet. They are available in white or clear and work great without the need for hemming or eyeletting. Only problem is, I’ve forgotten where I got them from!!!!!!
Found the main supplier at http://www.digigraphics.net/power_tabs.htm
and have emailed them to find the UK supplier. Will post when they post me.

Dave R, we considered a sewing machine, what type do you use and what sort of material is used for the stitching? Do you find it easy to do or is it a bit fiddly?

Capricorn, I checked out that website looks like a good idea. Only concern is the hem all around adds a bit of stability to the banner, do you not find the areas around the banner sag at all? It looks like a good solution if there are no stability probems..

Stitching is by far the best way to finish the edge of pvc banners.

It also makes the eyeleting a lot stronger.

Dave R,

Had no problems with sagging (although wife has, it’s her age!)
have made a banner at 6m long and put the three tabs along the top with one at either end.
