banding sp540
Posted by Michael Tremarco on 10 September 2007 at 16:40Hello
I’ve just printed three same images in a line. The first and third look fine. However, the middle image has banding in cyan and magenta areas. I am a newbie so any thoughts most appreciated.

Make sure that the media is not too tightly wound, always try to feed through first, i know its not always possible, but making sure it feeds through freely is good practice

Ian,
how do you feed through first? and why would you want to?
feed through and the vinyl will pick up dust and contamination?
Rolls just unwind, so not sure what you mean about to tightly wound?Peter

Similar to above – how many rollers have you got on?

if you put a full log on the back, and its tightly wound, it causes too much tension to pull through, especially banner and causes banding, usually I keep an eye on the printing and unwind the roll a little as it feeds through, as for dust if the environment is clean its not a problem, have had this problem with a few machines, versa camms.
hope this helps

Won’t the tension cause the banding right through the print? He is correct though with a full log of banner material you need to roll it by hand well you do with my SP540V when its a new roll. Once its down to half way it isn’t so bad.
But if you have banding only in the centre of the print are you sure the material is flat and not gathering up? It could cause an inconsistency in the distance between the material and the print heads causing that. Alternatively you could be using material when you have laid it flat on something on the middle of the roll and now the material isn’t consistent right through the log. I’ve had this with Canvas once. Now we store all our rolls upright.

Thanks for your help. Tried a couple of more runs and it seems to have gone. results now fine. Strange 😮
I did feed out some of the roll. Maybe that cured it. Thanks again everyone
