  • Awful picture for printing, help needed!

Posted by Lorraine Clinch on 2 April 2007 at 14:43

This particular customer, lovely guy, has just had his 4th van done, and has decided to have a print of his work on a panel. Trouble is, the picture he has decided on is really dark, and so far I have been unable to make much improvement on it. (But I’m not into this sort of thing anyway…)

He actually fits wood flooring, but the photo makes me think he’s advertising a chair!

Does anyone have any ideas on how to improve this?

The other images he has given me are far worse, BTW.

I too thought it was the chair he was advertising! 😮

Exactly! How can I get people to focus on the floor/improve the whole thing!

He obviously isn’t a photographer, all the other pics are terribly blurred. 😳

very quick try but this picture is useless as there is no detail what so ever in the light area, as soon as you lighten anything else you lose all detail, it is also very bluuuury so that does not help either.

Hi Brian, thanks for your try, it has improved things a lot, but I think you are right, this is not going to look good when printed.

    Cheers.

    Hi Lorraine,
get a decent picture from http://www.istock.com and show him the difference.

It will only cost you a couple of dollars and well worth your investment.

Do a search for: wooden floor. There’s some really fab pics.

The end result has got to be better for your business.

    Cheers,
    Cheryl 🙂

    Hi Peter

I have been so busy recently, work is manic, and we have just moved house again, so no time to think about printers. Like my PC60, it would just be in a corner gathering dust. I expect I shall get all enthusiastic at Sign UK again.

How’s yours? Are you still happy with your choice?

Lorraine, I would try and get him to use a different photo, if he doesn’t have a decent one himself then use something else. Just tell him that the photos that he has don’t really do justice to the craftsmanship and quality of his floors so he doesn’t get upset about the poor pictures he has provided.

I had a play around with your photo tonight Lorraine. By cropping out some of the image so most of what you see is the floor, and putting the chair at the edge of the frame, your eyes aren’t instantly drawn to it. Messed about a bit with colours, brightness and contrast and added a warming filter. Still not sure its good enough for your print but gave me a break from the regular jobs! 🙂

Thats an amazing difference Debbie, you are wasted in whatever you are doing normally 😀 😀
Apply a fade to the right hand side or cross the chair with writing and it will be really quality looking, Thats my tuppence worth.

I have to work with files like this all the time, would love to see the steps you took to get this result, if you have time that is Debbie. with all the kennelmaiding, sheperding, and plastering that is!

To be honest Harry its really trial and error, seeing what works and what doesn’t. When I get time though I’ll try and explain what I did to that photo in particular. Back on the plastering tomorrow! 😀
