  • Autoglym Tar & Glue Remover…

Posted by Clive Darbon on May 12, 2005 at 9:55 am

Just like to say thanks to all who responded to my original post regarding the removal of residue glue. Purchased a small container of Autoglym Tar Remover from my local motorists DIY store following the advice given in the post. I have to say it’s the absolute dog’s whatsits. Tried it out in front of a client who had struggled for hours to remove glue left by an old BT sticker, he was stunned at how easy it came off. In fact he signed me up to reletter the van there and then, and I sent him away to clean it off himself in preparation. Naturally, I shall have to charge him for the bottle and my advice!! Thanks to all.

I have to say that I have used it on a very expensive speedboat and I was not to sure if it was ok 😮 But that was a year ago and I’ve not heard anything yet

One of the best purchases I ever made was a bottle of that. I couldn’t believe I had struggled with other stuff for so long. It worked like magic! I’ve just stripped some redundant magnetics off with it. Came up like new, and I’m going to make some fridge magnets with it!

Aotoglym Tar Remover is the first tar remover we stumbled across, we had to take some rubber stripping off the side of a car and chris had already used this stuff when cleaning his own car, we thought we’d give it whirl at removing the excess glue, never looked back!!

    Cheers
    Aaron 😀

Last week I took the rubbing strips off my van and tried lots of things to get the glue residue off. All the time I had Autoglym products in my Garage, which I never thought of using until tonight.

It really does work, even started to shift glue that had dried rock hard, which I did think I would have to sand off.

Autoglym aren’t the cheapest, but their stuff certainly is good. The Super Resin Polish and Bumper Care gel are cracking products.

My father-in-law used to do car valeting and his stuff is still in my garage, I have used them, but prefer Autoglym.
There must be somewhere that supplies the tar remover in bulk and cheaper for car valeters and signmakers.

    Cheers

Autoglym is a franchise operation and there will be one covering your area. They go around visiting dealers, bodyshops and valeters and you buy off the van. Apart from the little cans sold in accessory shops the franchisees can also supply in bulk for the trade.

Give your local man a call and I am sure that he will be around like a shot.

    Hi everyone
Although the autoglym tar & glue is good most cleaning material suppliers in any area should be able to supply the same product in bulck which is every bit as good and probably cheaper. I use a company called Safechem wich is here in the north east of england. Before i started my sign company I had a cleaning company for 8 years and have found most tar & glue products to be pretty much equal in the job they do . It is safe to use on most surfaces just as long as you clean it off with soapy water or simmilar after use. but to be on the safe side always try a test patch on any suface before use. preferably somewhere that can’t be seen.

    cheers
    Kenny 🙂

There’s also a cleaner called Targo which works well but stinks to high heaven!

If you need to avoid the smell try 3M Citrus Cleaner, which used to be called Industrial Cleaner. Like all 3M products it’s expensive but good – no solvents just a nice lemon/lime smell.

im glad many of you are finding how well this stuff works ion comparison to some of the rip-off glue removers on the go… buy in bulk, it will last you forever and wont cost much…

here is a demo i did a good while back. covers tips on using tar and glue remover and a bit more.

now having said all that i would like to say this… 😕

    PUBLIC WARNING ! 😮
tar & glue remover is a great product but please…. make sure even the smallest of drops does not get near your eyes.
last year my father promtly sat a bottle of the stuff down. when he did it hit the ground with a sorta bump… he was kneeling at the time, the liquid inside the bottle splashed a bit and some little splashes came out the neck of the bottle and hit him in the face. (i do mean little drops) anyway, some little splashes hit him in both eyes. to cut the story short we had to send someone to pick him up and take him to hospital as he couldnt even see to drive! that was 30 minutes after the place he was in gave him eyewash to treat it… 😕 amyway… after an hour or so the stinging settled and all was well… just remember that was a small drop that he got in his eyes. 😉
