  • Audi R8 Wrap advice needed please?

Hi Guys, Just looking for a little bit of advice. Has anyone on here wrapped an Audi R8 before? Is it only the mirrors you need to remove? Or are there any more bits that need to be removed? Any more advice would be hugely appreciated. Cheers!

I wrapped one around a lamp post once! 😕
    joking! 😉

For the best finish possible, remove as many protruding obstacles as possible.
it reduces stretching of the media, cutting on the vehicle and enhances the general finish. not forgetting speeds up the process no end.
A good example of this is shown in Ben Hansens recent car wrap pictures.
    see "door handle finish" http://www.uksignboards.com/viewtopic.php?t=57205

what i would advise you against, is trying to remove anything on your own.
get a local mechanic to do this for you, or if in an Audi garage, get them to remove it before working on it. there is allot of things that can go wrong when removing vehicle parts. distance yourself from it as much as possible. explain to the customers what i have just said and allow them to make the decision on the way forward.

dont get me wrong, i know many will say its easy and just unclip this and that.
but if i had a high end car and paid to have a wrap. came back and a handle or mirror was loose, ide expect it fixed perfectly or i wouldn’t pay. ide also expect you to pick-up the repair bill too. just keep that in mind mate.

    Hi,

We wrapped a Audi R8 from silver to white last year and it was one of the most enjoyable cars to wrap minus the wing mirrors which were a pain in the a**

We didn’t remove the handles as you could easily wrap around them. If you look at the R8 handles these are almost like a separate piece we were able to get in behind them without removing them and as they are flush with the main panel you can wrap the doors without them being an issue.

I would definitely agree with Rob with removing parts…Be warned, we always try to get hold of a service manual for the car so we can take things of properly.

We had an incident a few years back where we removed the handle from a Bentley GT and the customer never told us that the door had already had some repair and that the internal handle hinge was damaged…..Cut a long story short we fitted the handle back only for it to stop working a few days later client was stuck in his car and had to climb out infront of 60 people at a party…Not happy at all….

Take your time when removing parts, buy the right too and panel trim removing kit…

    Many Thanks

Thanks for the advice guys, finally got round to doing the job and completed it this week.
I’ll agree the R8 was a joy to wrap apart from the mirrors!! Customer loved it when he came to collect.
This is only the second car i’ve wrapped since sitting the UKSB Wrap course last summer (my own car being the first) and the course really does fill you with confidence and knowledge to do the job right so a big thank you to Rob and James Deacon! 😀

Thanks Rob, Yeah it was a big jump into the deep end. It was a good customer of ours and he was understanding in the fact that i was still learning and wanted to improve so i was grateful to get the chance to do it.

I love working with avery supreme! It’s such a good material to work with, i did my own car in the Pearlescent White and love the result of it, will have to upload some more of my work soon.
