Hi all, it’s been a while since I was last here, finally got broadband at my Dad’s unit.

I’ve had a bloke in today who wants a Betty Boop graphic on his bike. I have a number on the Impact CD. He picked one and then I started to wonder how I was going to cut it. Basically, it’s a black and white drawing, but my problem is the thickness of the lines. The finished article needs to be about 100mm wide, but this makes the cut lines about 1mm! It’s weeding itself and messing up on the cutter!

Any ideas on how I can increase this thickness? I’m trying to cut "Grap0047" on the impact CD, I think it’s 2 or 3 years old.

Maybe if I go home for my tea, I’ll have a brainwave! Oh and I use flexi 7.5 or Corel 11

    Thanks!

With a decent vinyl and a nice new blade you should be able to cut 1mm lines. Failing that, you may be able to fatten up the image by outlining it and then removing the original.

select your artwork in illustrator and offset path by 1mm or so,
then select the new outline, all the new lines will be much fatter!
    cheers

Adam, you’ve surely already spent more time on this than it’s worth?

Do you charge a minimum fee?

    Thanks for the replies!

I’ve not got Illustrator installed at the moment, I guess that’d be a handy thing to "get round to"!

Peter, I guess I have already spent more time on this particular one that it’s worth, but it’s something I’d be doing to more work as time goes by, so a little research now will pay off as time goes on.

I’ll try the illustrator thing later.

    Thanks again.

Yes, even now I still open my mouth too soon on some tiddler job and spend way too long on it.
Some jobs are quite enjoyable or more creative which then deserve a bit of overtime on – a useful learning curve also.
