  • Are there any suppliers of metallic colour wrap materials?

Posted by John Parfit on June 8, 2011 at 7:44 am

    Good morning

Looking for possible suppliers of wrap technology material i.e. repositional and/or air channel with grey adhesive that have a range of metallic colours.

Tried normal metallic cast with the usual 50 micron thickness and permanent glue but it was a nightmare to coat over large areas (for us anyway).

We offer Silver, Gold, Grey and Black Metallic in our Supreme Wrapping Film which is a dedicated wrap film with bubble-free (air-egress) technology. Please contact your local Avery Graphics stockist for details.

    With kind regards

Avery produce some lovely metalics in their speciality range.

I’ve not used them to wrap tho so can’t offer any info there.

Hexis do quite a few in their HX vinyl. What colour are you after?

Just come across this again and need to say thank you for all your help, much appreciated.

However I was initially referring to trying to find an actual metallic material with ‘wrap’ adhesive e.g. controltac in 3M or grafiwrap adhesive rather than normal ‘quick grab’ permanent adhesive as found in cast metallics.

By metallic I meant colours with a metallic finish e.g. red, green, blue, purple etc with sparkley bits. not black, white, gold and silver.

Seems no manufacturer does these after all, but thanks again for the help folks.

i am guessing you are referring to the air channel type adhesive, ez-apply etc etc.

there are manufacturers that offer air channel type adhesive on particular ranges of vinyl. i think mactac do one. not sure it will mean metallic etc are also available though.

on a side note, and no disrespect intended, but if your taking on wrap work you really shouldn’t be relying on the adhesive to get the job done.
further more, air channel type adhesives should not be used on recessed work.

3M do metallics in 180 Controltac with and without the Comply adhesive.
Even without Comply it is still a good film for full wraps.

We’ve used Avery ultrametallic range a few times for part wraps, not easy apply material but excuse the pun, it is very easy to apply!! Actually used the silver to print on and do a wrap on our work car. I’ll post some pics of it tomorrow. Looks amazing in sunlight.

Thanks I’ll have a go at that Colin, don’t know about the 3M 180 Andrew, isn’t 180 series a white or clear printable not coloured metallic vinyl?

No I didn’t mean air channel Rob, sorry to confuse, a better word for what I meant would be re-positionable I suppose, something like controltack with glue filled glass beads used for wraps that doesn’t adhere till you squeegee it down rather than standard almost immediate permanent adhesives used on other vinyls inc. casts.

Definitely worth trying john and the finished product looks great, your customer will be very impressed. It is repositionable and very easy to work with. Here’s some pics of my car using Ultrametallic Siver, digitally printed with Roland ProIII. Obviously as it’s not a Digital media, the solvent makes the adhesive a bit harder to work with but the standard vinyl is much easier fitted.
