  • Applying vinyl to deep recesses help please?

Posted by Gary Thomas on March 25, 2004 at 10:32 am

Hi – Can anyone tell me when applying a vinyl graphic to a deep recess to a vehicle whether the graphic should be compensated for the recess so it doesn’t look odd once applied – Is there a recommended depth (low point) on a recess or recommended minimum width on graphic before you should consider compensating the artwork?

    Thanks 😕

do not compensate for recesses, you leave yourself wide open to various other problems arrising.
the best thing to do, if you can, is keep this in mind when designing a layout. 🙄

    Can i add…..

Depending on the Job/Customer, Sometimes i apply the graphics to the flat areas, then cut the vinyl where it crosses the recess & use my finger to stick the vinyl into the recess. This then leaves a gap which you join with a spare bit of vinyl. If you are clever where you make your join, I.E. where the panel creases are, it can be hard to see a join at all.

i agree with both wardie and rob on this one.
try and avoid the pits when designing but if you cant. wardies method is a good one too. i use this from time to time. 🙄
