  • Applying vinyl to cork board, advice needed please?

Posted by David Wainwright on July 19, 2018 at 6:01 am

Just got an enquiry from a school who requires lettering applying to some cork boards.

I’ve got a feeling that vinyl will not adhere to this substrate for very long. Has anyone ever had any experience of doing this before? And did the vinyl stay stuck? If so what material was used

Ideally it would be done flatbed but the boards don’t come apart easily and there’s lots of these to do.

If anyone has any other suggestions of other processes to use that would be great.

Apply text to panels and fit to cork boards. Would think even if you got it to stick it would look like a dogs dinner

    Weve done it.
It sticks okay..at least the cork we used stuck okay.
There are different finishes available of course.
We used a bit of 3M adhesive promoter on the edges, and used printed and laminated 3M wrap vinyl.
It was only for a temporary exhibition, I dont know how long it would last in the real world.

If it’s a smooth cork surface, you could try spraying the surface with a clear matt lacquer (you can get it in rattle cans) to seal the surface. It may be that the vinyl will then stick to the surface.
