Applying gold detail vinyl to a window frosting strip

I would place an outline around each emblem and cut this out of the etch glass section so that each emblem is not being backed with the etch vinyl.

My only concern is the amount of detail and the small size of the emblem. Have you done a test cust to make sure it can actually be weeded at this size?

you could have the frosted on the inside and gold on the outside i suppose if the cuting out dont work

You could also try layering the gold on top of the frost after installation as it should still show through the frost, just not quite as strong.

Thank you for your feeback, some good ideas there Ive not considered. I may test it behind the frosting if it looks OK, or make a cutout for each gold leaf detail if it looks too lost. It also looks like I may have to simplify the gold leaf design as pointed out I think it will be impossible to weed.

How about the potential for the wiondow cracking given the large dark (purple) vinyl on the window? Is this risky?

Depends on several factors.
Is glass Toughened or Laminated?
Does glass get direct sunlight?
Does glass get an initial shading pattern? this means is a section of the pane shaded by any obstructions such as trees, building projections, etc first thing in the morning when the glass may be cold from the night air and warmed quickly in some parts by hot sun while other parts remain cold. does this initial shading pattern cross where the vinyl is creating even more of a temperature differential?
Always best if in doubt to explain about thermal stress and that adding graphics could increase the chance of it. then ask customer if willing to take the risk.

Food for thought.

Just looked on google maps and the shop faces the south east, so most exposure will be in the morning. From the photo shown in UKSB3.jpg, this was taken later in the day and I can still see partial exposure of the left window to direct light.

The existing black and gold panel is fitted on the glass on inside of the restaurant. Not sure that makes a difference?

Main concern is if it is Laminated or Toughened glass and if Double glazed.
Are you thinking of installing on inside or outside?

I didn’t notice the existing black panels at first. If those are already there with no problem then replacing them with purple should not be a concern as I would think the purple reflects more and absorbs less solar heat. So already tested.

I’ll go ahead with it then and just to be extra safe maybe position the new sign slightly higher which should also assist with shading.
Planning to put the vinyl on the exterior as the reflection on the glass does detract with the original black/gold sign. I’m pretty sure its toughened glass. Looks pretty thick. Like you say even if the old sign was on the inside, being black, its been ok and been there years. Will be nice to tie everything in as I made the banner for them also.
