  • Application of vinyl to metal surfaces

Hi. happy New Year to you all. Some advice please. When applying vinyl to metal surfaces, how do you prevent bubbles appearing. We did an A board the other day, cleaned the surface with meths but still had trouble with air bubbles. We used a felt and plastic squeege but could not get rid of them all even after pricking the vinyl with a pin!

    Many thanks in anticipation

    Regards

Have you tried going over it all with a heat gun after you have applied it ?
Iv just flood coated a 6×4 alluminium panel this morning, same prob, a few bubbles here and there but the heat gun sorted them out, but be gentle with it 🙂

Is it freshly painted or powdercoated? Outgassing can cause little bubbles although not that quickly.

It could be that the steel was too cold (it happens if it is to hot too) but I am assuming they are tiny bubbles? If so, they’ll disappear in cast material after a day or two in the weather. Cal vinyl will take longer.

I also assume you are doing this dry?

If wet, it is not uncommon for a felt squeegee to leave fine bubbles, and a plastic one will leave bubbles if you have a nic in the blade edge.

Nothing to really worry about in the long term.

We have them all the time here caused by the humidity.

    Hope this helps
