Application film applicator ??
Posted by Ashley Filmer on 27 September 2008 at 17:49Hi all
I saw a machine being demonstrated to apply application tape to the vinyl up at the signuk show last year, but I can’t remember who made it – looked like a big mangle
Can anyone remember who makes them, and how much they are ?
Thanks Ash

it will be one of two machines but im guessing its the ezy-taper.
you will have to contact ezy-taper in oz and they will point you in the direction of their new uk distributor.
the other is the rollsroller from william smith, which is a pretty amazing bit of kit… -
It looks like the ezytaper is the sort of thing I’m after, have to you any idea what they start from (cost) ?

really don’t know mate, think it depends on which width you go for.
from memory you are talking around a grand upwards. but best check that out before taking my word for it. 😀 -
Robert, do you know the cost of the Rollsroller system?
-
It wasnt at the show I dont think, but I bought a weeder sheeter from the states very good machine, and really speeds up production.I would reccomend to any one

So would I. For the type of volume work we do, the time saving is incredible.
I’ve got the weeder and the sheeter and I’m just surprised that none of our equipment suppliers has considered importing them. They’re not expensive and, your figures may vary, but I reckon ours paid for themselves well inside a month.

They start at about 10k
We had someone come and show us a DVD and give us more details… we have a large flat bed cutter coming soon, so we are looking at getting one at some point.
-
Like the look of the weeder sheeter system.
Dont have the volume to justify it just yet by a long shot.
What kind of postage did you pay john.

I don’t remember the shipping costs. Mr. Normington kindly did the importing donkey work and could probably tell you.
As with most things, the Weeder works better in the video than it does in real life. Although it will weed small text, it is better suited to the sizes of lettering normally used on vehicles. Having said that, the more we use it, and learn how to get the best out of it, the more useful it becomes, and the more often it gets used for shorter runs of smaller text.
To me, the limiting factor of the Weeder, because of it’s speed, is the ability of staff to notice that they have accidentally weeded out full stops and other punctuation, and the time taken to rectify overexuberant weeding.
The Sheeter is a different matter altogether. I was concerned that it would put enough pressure on, so that the lettering peeled off cleanly when the time came for application, but my fears were groundless as it works well on that score.
With the Sheeter we can tape an awful lot of vinyl very quickly, but volume isn’t the only reason for having one. Other benefits are that longer lengths of wider vinyl can be taped by one person instead of taking two, it’s all applied evenly without bubbles or creases, and it is to a certain extent steerable so that, even when the initial alignment is less than perfect, longer lengths can be applied professionally.
Given all that, I reckon the Sheeter is as much use to a smaller shop as a larger one, and I think everyone should have one screwed to the end of a bench. It’s the most cost effective bit of kit I’ve ever bought.

I paid $280 postage, in total, for the 3 machines, they were sent as separate items, the fist two machines just turned up at the door, about a week later, the third I had to pay £8 customs clearance + vat

Check out my post on the EazyTaper in general printing forum before you part with any money and find out who the new Uk suppliers are and what back up they offer.

Hi Sean
I am not 100% on the rollsroller prices mate but i know they come in various sizes. i would suggest calling WmSmith’s for exact prices.

I think the 8×4 foot machine comes in just under £10k which may sound allot, and did to me, but once you use the machine and understand how easy and quick it is to perfect signs of any size "on your own". the price tag no longer seems an issue. and i mean that, looking at their site pictures or even watching the video, which IS good… still doesnt give you an idea of how simple you can layup mega sized graphics.
as i said before in a past thread. one of these machines eliminates the need for a second member of staff.
at the sign show this year i was "coaxed" ahem… i mean "forced" to give it a go… 😉 :lol1: :lol1:
i have to say i am glad i did…. it was a real eye opener for me and i would urge anyone to "give it a go" not stand and watch…
I have a 65inch wide laminator and never fuss with flood coating a full sheet of material on it due to setting up etc. i can quickly do it on my own. however, when i used the rollsroller i laid up the same 8×4 3 times…
i did those 3 8×4’s quicker than i would have done my one by hand. and that was me with my first go on it and being talked thru the process.
if you need a quick look at the video just go to youtube and do a search for UKSB and you will see the video on our UKSB video channel.peter, why the hell did you buy that weeder-sh1tter 😉 :lol1:

Same reason you are going on about the rolls roller, it makes lynn’s job far easier, she can lay up long graphics quicker and easier single handed, and they are perfect every time

can you hear the zzzzzz—zzzzz-zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz of my fishing real Mr N. 😉 :lol1: :lol1: :lol1: sorry, in a daft mood this morning. 😉
in honesty, i can see how application tape part is a good idea with how it works but it would pain me to see one of our guys trying to get that weeder setup every five minutes and stand cranking it round, then weeding out the centres by hand anyway… dont get me wrong, i can see how it works and does it well, i just think in a high production environment it is quicker by hand, all things taken into account.
-
Rob
its 2 separate machines, I only have the sheeter,
far quicker to apply tape than by hand.
and I think John has already given his opinion on the weeder.Peter

:no1:
Not even close. 😛
-
thought you had bought the full system peter, sorry mate… as i said i can see the benifits of the tape applicator.
i guess it depends on who is weeding john. :lol1:
seriously though, i still cannot see it…
we have two large tables with 4ft wide rolls constantly being chucked up onto them with bits being weeded here and there, lifted down and full sheets being weeded and so on… i just cant see having to manually feed that machine to get it going, then cranking the wheel back at a set pace to prize the vinyl away and still have to go back for the centres, then remove the waste from the core of the machine before applying the tape.
yes if we had dozens of metres of small text constantly being done the width of the roll, then yes definitely. i just dont see a busy work shop with constantly changing graphic sizes, text, don’t etc being put through it.
i guess at the end of the day it may suit some, i am not knocking it completely, i just think its limited to what it can be used for. -
The sheeter looks very handy. Do I just phone them and they arrange delivery or do I have to do that myself?
-
Paul you can call them ask for Karry, and pay by credit card, they will do the rest,
mention my name and the sign boards, perhaps we can get them to discount if they get enough enquiries from us?Peter

I wonder if we can sort a discount out on 2?
-
Have you tried the sheeter on lamination film? How did it work?

We didnt get a discount for three, but see if you can do better, I’m not sure if we even managed a better deal on the postage.
Warren, I have not tried it as a laminator, the bottom roller is slightly textured so not sure if it would work well, and although the rollers are adjustable for pressure ther isnt really a height adjustment.

Hello Paul,Derek
I am also very interested in this product, it could work well if we got something worked out?
-
Hi, I might be interested as well.
Someone should import a load and sell them (with a bit added for themselves) 🙂
-

I already made enquiries,
30 machines would be the minimum to get a trade dealer discount
and get a small return on them, but then you would have to market them as well, so even though the machines are good, to be a sole importer /dealer you would need quite a bit of finance to get it off the ground, and then you have the responsibility of warranty, anyone up for it?Peter

if you like the kit buy one and get on with making signs.
let someone else do the donkey work of marketing their product. 😕 -
Hi,
Does anyone know how I can get hold of the sheeter. I have left messages on their answering machine, I have emailed them at least six times – but no reply. I have now been on their website, and that seems to be down!
Their product might be good, but I doubt potential customers will chasing them for a purchase.
Could they have closed down?Thanks
-
The site works for me.
Don’t forget they are in the USA, so you have to account for the time difference.
-
im not sure the widths you are working on but the sheeter, which if i am right is the application tape dispenser with the low loading bar. why not just buy a 4ft wide dispenser from hexis at £95. this will hold any size roll, even those wider than its meant for.
just a suggestion… 😕

Rob the dispenser does not squeegey the tape, and you can make a dispenser for a tenner if you really want to save money! trust me the sheeter will beat manual applying, albeit only at 610, but this is the most common used size anyway, and most economical.
