  • App tape application with laminator – personal advice needed

Thinking of purchasing this laminator as it seems excellent value for money. Has anyone ever used this style of laminator to apply app tape? I was thinking it would be ideal but I can’t see how it would hold the roll of app tape 😕

    Cheers

just buy an application tape dispenser ewan, you will get one about £70 from MDP or similar. will do over 4ft wide easily.

I’ve got two of those, one for 610 vinyl and another for 1220 vinyl, great pieces of kit but 1220 on my own can be awkward to apply app tape. I need to buy a wider laminator as I’m going to buy a 54inch print and cut machine so if I can get a laminator that does everything I need it to do at a good price it’s a bonus. I’ve heard those type of laminators are good to use, just not sure how I would apply app tape with it.

We have the same laminator, for the money they are ok.

My hubby made a media roll holder screwed to the rear sides, I suspect you could do something similar.

That sounds like a good idea Denise. Is there any chance you could post a pic?

Ewan, you don’t want to be messing about keep changing over rolls of media, once you have your roll of laminate set up in the machine then you are probably best to leave it there & just stick to applying tape the way you are just now, might be a little awkward but how often do you need 1220 wide? You could always try applying 2 610 wide strips instead :lol1: :lol1:

Not sure how one like that would work either, where does the laminate roll go & what happens to the backing paper. My laminator is a bit on the old side now so things may have changed but mine has rollers to hold the roll of laminate & rollers for the backing paper to wind on to as it comes off the laminate film.

Martin that’s the way my old GMP laminator was set up. I’m trying to get a lamintor without spending thousands on one. To laminate vinyl on the one in the pic you lay a sheet of laminate on top of the sheet of vinyl then do a kind of hinge type method and let the backing slide through your fingers. The laminator I have at the moment is the same type but smaller and also has a roll holder so I was wondering how I could apply app tape with the machine in the pic. It could be more hassle than it’s worth 😕 If I had the money I would purchase an Ezy Taper or an Easymount but buying a printer is going to take up any spare cash 🙁
