AP/280 Vinyl Advice
Posted by Wilf Halliwell on 9 December 2011 at 09:14Going to be using APA’s AP/280 Vinyl on a curtain side for the first time. Can anyone give me advice on taping up and applying to the curtain? Your comments would be most welcome.

just tape it with good quality app tape as normal and make sure that the curtains are tensioned at both ends and also the bottom straps.also are the curtains new? as if their not make sure that they are spotless clean as once the road grim and dirt gets into the curtains its very hard to get it 100% out .we do 2/3 sets of curtains every week using apa truck vinyl and it is great to work with .

Been discussed a few times Wilf so a search of the forum might give you some more info.

Hi Gordon
We have a two tone logo going on new curtains with the logo being 4mx1m. We’re having problems with getting it to go down flat. The curtains are not on a vehicle, we are putting it down on a flat surface. We have put it down dry, also tried wet using 50/50 water and meth’s and still getting problem.
Hi Martin
Having had a good look at all the areas on here using a search “APA” etc., but find conflicting comments on how to apply this product. Users are saying one thing and the manufacture is saying another and nothing is working. Someone must know the right way to apply this product without getting bubbles and creases…We’re finding this product hard to work with and at this rate may have to find someone who can apply the vinyl. If you know anyone in the North Manchester or Lancashire area please let me know. Any advice is greatly received.

Hi wilf if your doing it flat of the truck then just use water without soap /meths to fit and leave for 30min to tack and them soak the app tape and slowly remove .

Hi Gordon
Thanks for the info. We did this the second time we tried to put it down and still got problems… its not 100%. Are we just being too picky? -
Wilf, your not being to picky as you should be able to get it 100%, not used it a lot myself but have a few times and not had to much of a problem applying it the way Robert Lambie described. This was however on the vehicle.
Who is doing the install? I know you are new to the industry but I am guessing you have some experienced fitters working for you. This isn’t the sort of vinyl I would want to fit unless I already had a fair bit of experience.

Hi Martin
We have the curtains, which are blank, from a company across the road (250yds). We do lots of large format signs etc and the company has people within it that have 26 years of experience with vinyl. Its just we haven’t used this product before and its a SOAB! We are right now trying for the third time and at the end of the job I’d like to make a little money on it and not a loss.
Here we go… 😮
