When I try and sign into my regular AOL account to check my email I get a message saying my screen name has signed in from another location and my account shuts down again. I can however sign in using any of my other screen names.

If instead I use internet explorer and go to the aol website I find I can sign in there using the faulty screen name without any problems.

Does any one have any idea what could be wrong with my AOL account?

phill AOL can be a real nightmare, when you logged in via IE did you remember to log out again properly. How long have you had this problem because you have just installed new anti virus software haven’t you, may be a problem with the software and AOL or your firewall. I would contact AOL and ask them and if you get no joy try un-installing AOL and reinstalling it.

That’s what I thought at first lynn – but the fact I can sign in through the AOL website makes me wonder if this is indeed the case. Is the problem with the AOL server itself?

I just wondered if any other AOL users were experiencing problems at the moment?

Thanks fo rth eadvice Martin – I use a different PC at work (which is switched off at night) but I was logged in all day today – I thought when I shut down the PC any programs running would close – so this should apply to my AOL account as well or should it?

Phill I don’t think it does, with some sites you stay logged in until you log yourself out. Not sure how AOL works as I ditched it a long time ago!!!

The problem occurred for the first time tonight Martin – I think I’ll need to phone the AOL support line to try and get this sorted. 😕

Phill I bet if you go into work tomorrow start up your computer and log out of AOL then the problem will be fixed.

OK Phill, if you start up your computer and you are not already logged on (which I think you will be ) try logging on and then off again.

    Hi Martin

The problem is only with my PC at home. I’ve tried the PC here at work and it’s working fine so obviously the fault is with the home PC. I’ll try un-installing and re-installing AOL at home. Hopefully that will fix it.

I’ve now changed my password which seems to have fixed the problem. My home and work PCs are both working fine with AOL again.

just to say I have changed a while back from hotmail to aol.

I now use yahoo and find it very good indeed, well worth a look, really nice and easy to use.

    cheers
