They look a bit vicious to me.
never tried one but seen one in action.
I would be very wary of a spinning metal part contacting the vehicle if you had a lapse of concentration or the wheel wore down quick etc.
That said I’m sure they have been thoroughly tested. -
i actually went to buy one for a large job i had that involved stripping a load of vans with reflective vinyl. but, "at the time" they had to be rigged up to a compressor. this was fine as we have one, but obviously not out on site. so i decided not to buy one in the end.
now they are available with a regular plug connection, but the job involving all the reflective has passed.
in honesty, i think they are ideal for removing reflective vinyl. even diamond grade reflective is whipped off in no time.
yes, they do wear down pretty quick but i think the cost of the replacement rubber wheels can be outweighed by the cost of several mens labour charge picking little bits of reflective off bit by bit… 😕
as for regular vinyls. they whip off lettering and the like in no time but i would only use it on areas with loads of small text, such as legal addresses and the like.
the MBX isnt cheap, nor is the wheels. however, if you have a tough job needing done, they will definitely save you on labour many times over, not to mention, preventing you getting sore fingers tips! -
Used to use one in the last place I worked. As Rob has said, it is ideal for removing text and smaller ‘picky’ stuff.
We got the contract for changing the vinyl on over a hundred council vehicles and it certainly helped speed that job up.A couple of things you might like to know are that certain colours (reds mainly) can sort of stain into the vehicle paint if you aren’t careful, and that it creates one hell of a mess in the vehicle bay.
I think you would have to have a large volume of work passing through your shop to make it worth all the noise and mess. -
…and they don’t like being reversed over in a long wheelbase Sprinter either 😳

It’s one of those tools that might not get used that often but when you do it is superb.
They really do get the job done and especially (as mentioned) excellent for small text.
I once had a customer panic when doing a job on his van – he thought I was using an orbital sander!
Most bodyshops have the air driven one and I was well pleased when they brought out the 240v model. -
Have had mine about 3 years now and I bet it ain`t been used a dozen times. But having said that I wouldn`t be without it as for small text and reflective you can`t beat em. Gotta warn about burning the paint work and also using them on ropey vans as they are very good at removing dodgy paintwork too.
Cheers

Thanks for your replies!
One more question, is it able to remove external grade double sided tape?(Clear stuff)
-
I think it would – it takes glue off no problem.
Maybe someone can do a quick test for you, I don’t have access to one nowadays.
