Anyone recommend good advertisement?
Posted by Daniel Taylor on September 28, 2015 at 11:37 amOkay if like to apologise if this is in the wrong category. Basically I’ve worked for a printing company for the last 15 years which recently went under and have been made redundant … So rather than look for another job I’ve decided to go self employed. So I’ve purchased a Graphtec CE6000 – all the latest software ie. Flexi 10/ vector magic/ coral draw and the latest impact 2015 vehicle outline cd. So I’m basically ready to go … My question is what are the best ways to advertise as I literally have no money and no jobs in the pipeline … Only been self employed a week. So what’s the best way to advertise to get my name and number out there?
Surely the works out there?
I’m in the middle of having a website being built which should be ready by next week.
Kind of work I’m looking for:
PVC Banners
Dibond Signs
Vinyl
Vehicle Livery
Artwork
Etc…Any help would be appreciated:-
Regards

facebook and twitter page may be good place to start but may be time consuming?, good luck with new venture.

Thanks shawn, I already have a Facebook and Instragram page .. Just in the early stages tho.

door knocking… hand in leaflets… compile email list if those you chapped doors and email them periodically.
be sure to keep dropping in on those you had a good feeling about and have potential of ongoing work. "people prefer to buy from people"best of luck mate! :thumbup2:

Thanks Robert, In the next few weeks I’ll be getting Business Card and Leaflets printed, putting some rear window graphics on my car (might aswell considering I do vinyl) haha! Having a website made at the minute .. I have a Facebook page and Instragram page .. Both with minimal likes, not really sure what else I can do .. I mean at the minute I’m working out of my spare bedroom lol! But we’ve all got to start somewhere right???

At the risk of stating the obvious, are there customers from your previous job you can approach?

Starting from scratch is daunting.
Do you have a van? If so letter it………a car…as you say letter it or at least the back window…….some will say a lettered car is not professional but when starting out I would do anything to attract interest or get people talking/calling/emailing me.
Knock on doors as Rob said……..I would be introducing myself having been in the industry for "x" years and now starting on my own and looking for work……..lets them know that you have experience and are keen to get work.
Best of luck.

Thanks John much appreciated pal! I mean I have 2 transit vans to do this week .. Gone in at £200 per van and £60 to remove old decals of one of the vans which I fitted around 2 years ago… Think I may of shit myself in the foot with the £60 quote tho haha

Find out what your competition are charging.
Follow them on Social media, so you can see the kind of work they’re producing, and their typical client’s (one man bands, fleet work) what are their designs like, text only, full wraps, partial wraps, etc.
Find out what they’re doing wrong, and how you can improve it? Do they take 2-3 days to send a quote, are their designs rubbish.
It’s easy to sell if you have a solution to someone’s problem. 😉
You may be more expensive, but your quotes are out in hours, your designs are better, the quality is higher, and generally you make the customers life so much easier. It’s no quick fix, but in the long run you’ll have returning customers, who value you!

quote Daniel Taylor:Yes I’ve done installation
Have you not thought about doing freelance installation to build up some funds to get your business going ?
Getting out in the field and working directly with clients and the public is probably the best way to gain work for your own set up.
This way, you can keep the cash coming in while you build up your client base.
Where are you based ? -
Thanks lain, that seems like a good idea … I’m based in NW Manchester?

I have a contact for a installer we use in Manchester, he may be worth speaking to. We too occasionally require additional pairs of hands and are Manchester based. 😉

Cheers buddy that would be great .. Anything like hat would be perfect. Cheers

networking, networking and networking. i joined the local business forum when i started, i have never advertised in the media or delivered a leaflet or knocked a door. but i have talked about what i do to everyone i meet, been to many network meetings and always had a pocketful of business cards on me whatever i was doing.
5 years later, I’m rushed off my feet and have enough work to last me 2 months if it all stopped coming, but it doesn’t it just keeps on growing 🙂 I’m very thankful for all i have.
