Anyone got "Transport" font ?
Posted by Nigel Fraser on December 23, 2003 at 8:01 pmI’ve been managing without this for ages, saw the reference on the Links forum and eagery downloaded both the medium and bold – but oh dear, I guess the guy who drew these isn’t a signmaker or if he was he needs a lot of tuition from Andrew at vectorwise !!
So before I spend hours redrawing it, just wondered if anyone might have it already ( and be kind enough to email or post a copy 😀 )
I know its a bit near Christmas, but I thought I’d ask while it was fresh in my mind anyway.
Have a good one…

I don’t know if thats a similar one or not – but the one I was after is the standard road traffic sign typeface for the UK.
Any offers/suggestions welcome….if not maybe I’ll redraw it and post it in the new year.
Thats all for now folks – I’m signing out for Christmas and going to family in Cornwall (nice long drive!) now. Hope you all have a good time 😀

Hi Simon,
I could do with having a copy of that font if you don’t mind

If this is a case of “teach my Grandmother to suck eggs”, then so be it, but it may be useful to some people who don’t regularly work with road signs.
There are two different weights of Transport…
Medium—for use on dark coloured panels (red, blue, green, brown etc.)
Heavy—for use on light backgrounds (white, yellow)
The relevant part of the “The Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002” is here http://www.hmso.gov.uk/si/si2002/20023113.htm#sch13 unfortunately it doesn’t show how the line spacing and x-height relationships all work out. It’s a horribly clinical way to work out sign layout, but it does have a certain logical appeal.
PS. if anyone knows where the *.pdf files of the “Working Drawings” went I’d be very pleased to know.

DarrylWithout wishing to cast nastersiums(?aspersions?!#) at the creator of these fonts, they aren’t really up to sign making standards.
The basic shapes seem to be about right, and they look OK printed on an inkjet up to about 20mm. Anything much above that and you can start to see that they have been autotraced by some application and not tidied up too thoroughly.

Richard, you may be right,
i apologise for posting without testing the wares,an oversight on my part.
