Anybody out there got any good ideas for my own van layout?
Posted by Warren Beard on 20 December 2007 at 22:45Hi All
Ding ding ding, ROUND 3 ( or 4 or 5 or something 🙄 )
Due to the blue van and my colours I have a bit of a problem, so I thought best thing to do is turn it in to a part wrap with some digital image so people can see what I can do.
I still want to keep it fairly simple and clean looking but need to create something where I can get my logo on to a white background as I have done here (these are still concept stage)
Anybody out there got any good ideas for this or can help me tweak what I have done already. Will still need to see if these istock images will be good enough to print at this size.
Anything goes really but remember I need to get the logo to stand out on the dark colour.
Cheers and thanks

Early stages Warren I know, but I like the idea, think I prefer the top one although the white looks a little to harsh.
But at the mo can’t think of a more suitable colour to achieve the effect you want 😕
Iv’e got to give it to you, you don’t let the grass grow under your feet, my van’s been blank for a good month now where it was stripped for new graphics 😕

Hi Warren
I like the first one as well.
Can you make the white slightly off white?
Merry Christmas
Mike 😀 -
yep took 4 mts to get something on mine, i also like the top idea,
chris

of the two, i prefer the top.
the overall idea works well but the design needs more, not sure what at a glance. im not keen on the font used for the slogan, web address and the tell number. i think they should be in a sanserif font. those used sorta look a bit traditional against a modern logo/design. just my take on it…
as i said, i think it needs more work but its a good start mate. -
I like the idea …. it will show the cross section of the work you can do.
I would have the top one, but have the white [hull white] going at an angle with the arm still bleeding off [this would show you could deal with full colour and recesses]
I agree with Rob about the sub text and would have the white shape and arm towards the back and have the tel no. etc away from logo at the front maybe even doors in space 😀 😀
cheers

i really like the top design,
as said, i think the white could perhaps be ‘less white’. and i’m not sure the tag line works too well.
nice!
-
First thing I would do is take the "istockphoto" watermark off the van. :lol1:
Good idea though, i like the top one too.
-
I like the idea, especially the top one.
Maybe you could photograph your own hand holding your business card, so the whole thing is photographic, and with a bit of perspective. The perfect rectangle isn’t very dynamic.
-
I like #2. I think you could make the "card" out of 4mm dibond and stand it off the van with spacers. Also I’d like to see lettering cut out of 1/2" PVC and bonded onto the Dibond backer. The mint leaf could be carved to a 3D shape. If the van is on the highway a lot, you’d have to anchor it down very well. 🙂 or make it removable with a vinyl image behind it on the van for highway speeds.
Maybe tilt the card a bit to break the symmetry, it’s kind of "stiff".
I think it’s a neat concept either way Warren.
Cheers mate! -
top one for me too……………..I know you’ve probably tried to keep the card as clean looking as possible but I think I would try & get the telephone number & website incorporated into it rather than outside of it
A dropped shadow wouldn’t go amiss to give it a bit of depth
I reckon it’ll look really effective once you’ve got it sorted

Hi all and thanks for the responses.
Some good ideas and opinions, I will try a few more options and post some more.
I was also thinking of making the white box a banner with the hand pulling it out of a roll up type mechanism. I will have to see what I can source picture wise that will be good enough to print at that size.
I am also trying to keep the wrapping element of the design as little as possible as it is something I have never even attempted before.
Be back soon 😉
Cheers

I agree with bits and pieces of what most have already said.
the white rectangle would be better at an angle and I also think it would be best with the number and website within that too. -
Hi All
Just thought I would post this to see if I am in the right direction.
The bottom one is similar to my business card.
I’m not sure how the drop shadow will be printed to let the blue through to create the fade effect of the shadow, will it have to be a hard solid line for the shadow?
Different fonts as well.
Cheers

Love the one with the girl holding the card, if you dont use it can I have it:)

The pop up looks like a good idea Warren, but how about fixing a real pop up cassette to the side of the van? A small Piece of material coming out and merging with the vinyl.?
I would be careful with any cast/faded shadows as they would not work on a dark colour van (needs to be printed on clear to merge with the background,) unless you go foe a complete wrap….
Also stay clear of any detail and text passing over the door runners

I like the idea but it strikes me as being a printer more than a sign company as it looks like someone holding a business card or comp slip.

I love the concept. Have something similar on my van now. Gets lots of attention, general comments… mostly from women asking if the girl is wearing a bra….. How the hell do I know is usually my reply….
Needless to say, boys like it, girls not so keen….
this is it here

Nice one Shane, I must have missed that one when looking.
Peter, I like the idea of the actual banner mechanism but not sure if I want to experiment with that type of fixture just yet 😳 😮
Anybody have any other design concept ideas I might be able to play with.

love seeing the fun you are having, just a design note for fitting, watch where the handles and door runners etc. go.
dont want another mr plod blunder do we

looking good Warren…….I would have your tagline ranged left maybe italic semibold it will be fine ranged left as the leaf is on the right [grey text?] top right/bottom left]]
the other text maybe try the word mintsigns as part of the web address in bold and the replace the dot with a slash or a dash….don’t know I have been wrong a lot at work recently :lol1: :lol1:

:lol1: :lol1: warren that last one is very close to one of my designs i have for our vans. our company colours are also blue and green. its not exact same but the overall look is very similar… :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

i do like the last one warren…even though im not a fan of swooshes, i would drop the large telephone number on the back door it spoils it 😀

quote Andrew Boyle:similar to our van as well…. 😀 😀
that’s what I said to John when I saw it – reminds me of your van 🙂

Hi everyone
Thanks for the reply’s, I honestly can say I have never seen your vans and this design was totally coincidental. Because the van is blue I wanted to create a white area for my logo to go on to and after playing around with different shapes the oval was the only one that looked right and good.
Once again Andrew’s layout is great, I tried some options with the oval on the front but could not get the positioning quiet right and though it looked better at the back, Andrew’s placement of the oval is spot on.
I will continue playing with it and finalise shortly. Next big dilemma is fitting it is this weather 😕
Cheers all
and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all those who I will not see again on the forum until 08 😉

With regards to the design above, would the oval be cut in to pieces cut horizontally? As this cannot fit through a cutter in 1 piece (as far as I know) I would have to get it cut in to pieces and then fit piece by piece!
An I correct and do you have any tips? 🙄
Cheers

Warren your oval could be cut on a 1300 plotter, Andrews would be a tad big, but not an issue to cut by hand.
Just use a good cast or wrapping vinyl, and although do-able in one piece, may be easier to join at the bottom of the top panel. It’s going to be in several pieces anyway on the door sidePeter

Hi again All
I hopefully will be picking up the van this afternoon and wanted to start preparing the graphics.
My question is regarding the white area and what vinyl is recommended taking in to account I have to do it outside in the cold. I have used Oracal 751C before but did find it fairly difficult to use due to the initial tack so was hoping for some recommendations on any other wrap vinyls that would be easiest for me to try. I know the conditions are all wrong but what else can I do 😕 If it goes wrong I will just have to keep trying until I get it right.
So basically looking for a wrap vinyl with low initial tack and as least problematic in colder weathers as possible 😕
Any help appreciated.
Cheers

hi warren ive used hexis vehicle conform series and it went well, the area i was covering was not as big as youre oval though.
i found it very tricky at first to get in the indents ect but after mastering that found it easy.
outdoors is going to make it more difficult with the temperature and dust. personally i would wait a bit for the warm air.
and the one thing i never done enough of was to prep the van!!!!
😀

Warren you could use a white wrapping vinyl from KPMF goes on really easy, but I have been told you’ll never get it off 🙂 ! You could also use a digital media naked ( without a print ) something like MD7 ?
Get a second pair of hands to hold the material when fitting or try and persuade someone to let you use their nice warm workshop !
Good Luck and look forward to seeing the results !

So today I finally picked her up 😉 Very happy but now need to get these graphics on ASAP.
Can anybody tell me anything about the bubble free material from Europoint, it has a hexagon pattern on the rear to allow bubbles to escape.
Cheers
