any tips on how to apply vinyl over rivets please?
Posted by Steve-Smith on October 12, 2005 at 12:53 pmhi just wondered if any one has any tips or tricks of applying vinyl over rivets? normally use a heat gun and a soft squege and work the cast vinyl into the edges of the rivets but it always takes forever

We use a rivet brush (yeah,,they melt sometimes but are cheap enough to replace) but I remember reading on another board where someone was using a tennis ball with good results – I guess it has something to do with the curves and covering more surface area at once.
If these are not true rivets, but screws – we remove them – apply vinyl – and replace. Much easier….because the screws are just to difficult to get the vinyl to lay properly.

scratch the heads with 120 grit silicacarbide
-wet and dry– get all the road grime off and away from the thingsor just resort to a large hammer

hi steve, bit late but ive just joined,
dont mess around with brushes and special tools, just use your thumb over the vinyl on the rivet and pop any bubbles, then use your thumb nail to gently work around the rivet, sounds wierd but with a bit of practice it takes seconds. you may have to heat it in afterwords, but i,ve fitted oodles of decals, never had a prob. hope this helps. -
brush the flame from a lit cigerette lighter across the vinyl over the rivet & push down with the thumb.

They should clamp down on all this riveting stuff
When will they get it together
I guess it’ll only end up in a punch up
