Any ideas on how to make a free standing sign??
Posted by Ian Higgins on 6 December 2007 at 09:34Hi,
I have a customer wants a 5mm foamboard backdrop 2mtr high x 1mtr wide that he can stand in front of during a presentation. He insists on 5mm foam board and that it must be free standing!! any ideas of how to do this quickly?
Cheers
Ian

why not place a triangular section of foamex to the back (from the left over sheet), scored lip and bonded to the panel, Rather like a free standing picture frame, will flat pack too

can you not convince the customer to have a pop up banner?
-
you can get the new oversized "high" roll-up stands from easystands.com and marc brit… they reach upto about 3metres.

you could stand behind it and hold it up for him if he wants it that quick. Either a prop behind or as Rob says a banner stand

What about making an easel type frame?
Glue 2 lengths of wood diagonally from the top middle down to the bottom corners.
Then fit a single leg hinged at the top with a chain to limit the leg movement.
This would give it some rigidity. -
what about one of those bendy A board stands? just slot in?

Just a thought, Ultima Displays used to do the right thing, a floorstanding support which takes up to 10mm board, ideal for what you want

Are you sure that he doesn’t want a standing sign that is free?
But seriously, 5mm foamex is no use at that size at it is too floppy without substantial support like a frame. The minimum should be 10mm.
The other suggestions you received make more sense than what he is asking for. I would try to put him off foamex: too floppy, won’t fit in car etc and go for a roll-up.
