  • Any experience with MDP DIGI-FLEX Clear ?

    Hi all,

Currently having some trouble with this vinyl (MDP Digi Flex Clear) and not really too sure where the issues are coming from. Im really new to anything garment but I work alongside family with 10+ years of experience in the clothing world however they have only every used sublimation and standard flex cut vinyl.

Sooo firstly printing. Im using a roland vs540 printing on Garment heat transfer profile standard quality, Max Impact for vectors and pre press for rasters. Printing in reverse and the prints seem great and weed fine.

Were pressing to 100% cotton sacks. Following MDP instructions says 160c 16 seconds and peel immediately after pressing medium to high pressure. I have tried upping the pressure temps times with mixed results.

It seems that the print only transfers well if you can manage to peel it all within the first couple of seconds of the press coming up otherwise it seems to go solid to peel and it ends up with most of the colour left on the backing. Making the larger sacks impossible to get right.

Has anyone used this vinyl and has any tips on where I could be going wrong?

    Hi,

Used this many times before until we started using the Xpres films.

I never had any issues with the film or weeding and it normally sticks right on and gives me enough time to peel without rushing and lifting any corners accidentally.

If you ask mdp nicely you could take one of the sacks down with the film to MDP and ask them to try it on there press as they normally have one there for demos. At least that way you can see if it’s your press not reaching correct temps without having to buy a infrared heat tester 8).

    Tas

    Hmm yea.

    Something doesn’t sound right.

What heat press are you using? Did this start happening a few sacks in? Or straight away? If so was the heat press on for a while before you started?

When you say the colour is coming off does it look blotchy/spotty?

It shouldn’t be taking any ink with it as it’s on the opposite side to what you are peeling off.. if this is the same as the siser stuff we are using.

Tried multiple presses that are being used daily by family in the clothing business all really good knights heat presses… And yes it seems to be coming off blotchy and leaving what looks like the rest of the ink on the backing which surely shouldn’t be right as it should be transferring the whole vinyl… not just ink??

Ok it sounds like a similar issue we had a cheap press we had at the time. First time we took it in and tired it out. 1st 10 garments where fine, after that they got worse and worse. Spoke to supplier, sent some photos, they sent some more. Same again, relief they were going down fine and then by time I got to 10 it was doing the same.

We now have a swing press from magic touch. We can do 100’s, sometimes 1,000’s in a row and no problem.

What I think it is, is some sort of heat reaction, they heat from the bottom of the press, as the pad does get pretty hot. I think our more expensive press deals with it better. The cheap press just kept the heat.

I think the image lift is cos you are trying to peel it off to soon. I would do it when it is warm, but not hot.

I would try one first thing tomorrow when the press is cold and see if it’s the same thing.
