  • Another Own Van Design help?

Posted by Stuart Miller on 12 June 2011 at 09:54

Hi all just bought a new van and thought I’d jump on the bandwagon and see if you could help me improve on my own idea for the layout.
Its a bit awkward being a minibus.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Stuart, I think the arrow has far too much prominence when in reality it means absolutely nothing to a potential customer.
    My 3 rules are
    Who you are
    What you do
    How to contact.
Anything beyond that can be distracting.

Oh, I’ll have to plaster it on my display… So true! Thank you.

I get what the arrow is there for but as above, it takes over from the main body of text, especially the name.

Hi Stuart, had a quick go
As for keeping a conservatory cool you could use contravision for short term advertising just in the summer months then change for keeping the place warm with solar etc.
Got a mixture of print and vinyls here

    Thanks for the ideas guys.
I agree with keeping it simple as those are the things I always mention to clients, However the Arrow and the word Reflecta are my logo and are the size of the arrow is therefore dictated by the size of the text in Reflecta.
Not really after a logo design change just the layout of the van.
So there is not really anything more on there than the 3 rules!

As for the keeping conservatories cool statement. I tend to use this as many people do not know that window film is the main way to do this and probably its biggest use in the residential market.
It does nothing for keeping places warm in the winter so wouldn’t want to change that for seasons.
I personally dont like contravision as I had it on my old van and could not see through it very well, so just want to tint the windows.

My current layout on my old van had a much smaller name and arrow yet a designer several years ago suggested the larger image, so I was playing around with that.

I would move ‘reflecta’ so that the arrow can bleed of the van and not be as dominant, you can then use another arrow as a large watermark and work your other info around this.

I think you can do something dramatic with that arrow it’s a great starting point.

I like that Andrew. That’s going to make me think. Thanks

Played around with Andrew’s theme a bit with.
Rainbow colour a bit too much and would involve buying and installing a large print which is not my forte yet.
So I’m leaning towards the blue with orange arrow at the moment. Want to stay with my existing font.

    Too many phone numbers.
    Website too small.
The staggered bits on the back window are too close to the edges, I’d center justify and bring them in.
But it does look better than what you started with.
I’d change the orange to kiwi green.
    Love….Jill

Well eventually got round to my own van. Thanks for all the advice it was all appreciated although not always followed. Phone numbers well yes I’ve committed the UKSG sin of putting both numbers AND using Tel & Mob. That’s because I cover a huge area and have actually ended up with a phone number which is not my local exchange. I am often out on the road and want people to call both numbers. Mob & Tel is just personal preference, often I don ‘t do that on customers vans.

After doing a couple of partial wraps now I have every respect for those wrapping whole cars. I find it very hard work and frustrating. Keep promising myself a wrap course but not much point until I have a workshop. lots of minor mistakes a sign maker may spot but overall I’m happy how it turned out. Took 3 half days dodging rain and paying jobs but I’m happy with the end result.
