Another Matt Black topic!! Which do you prefer?
Posted by Chris Foster on 26 January 2011 at 09:09Got to wrap a vehicle next month in Matt Black and was interested to see what make is your preference. I’ve only ever used the Hexpress stuff but quite fancy trying something else. I’m happy with Hexpress but it does mark very easily (like all matt blacks I suppose).
So what are your fav ones to use?!
Cheers

The 3M 85 series is probably the best. Still marks easily though.

William Smith provide the 3M stuff I presume? Regarding marking it would you use a felt squeegee to apply or is that still to intense?
Chris 🙂

I prefer to use a normal sqeegee with a piece of velvet stuck to the edge, if you do get a few marks when applying they normally go away if you run your heat gun over them

Yes Chris we do.
Peter is bang on re a gentle heat to remove marks. One thing to consider with matt blacks is that when you post heat them you need to bring them up to the required post heat temperature very slowly and don’t be tempted to blast them with heat as they can gloss, but I’ve seen lots of really cracking results now.
Peter is correct re the velvet, you can also use the felt edged nylon squeegee’s but not the solid felt as you don’t get the required pressure.
If you were a full UKSG member you get a very good deal on the 85 series 😉

Excellent thanks for the replies… I’ve used matt black in the past and yes admittedly blasted the heat too quickly to begin with…. I now know!!!!!
Gill, interested in becoming a member, what sort of discounts are available (pm me if you wish!). Also is there a matt grey available in the 85 series, my customer sent me a mail this morning possibly requesting this instead!!
Thanks
