Another heat press question ?
Posted by sconie on 1 May 2005 at 14:42Hi again folks, in addition to the vinyl side of things, I am toying with the idea of getting a heat press to do clothing with.
Any tips on size/type and make I should be looking at, I gather from other posts that there is a flock substitute that is more durable, can anyone advise on this material.
So I have the cutter/plotter, I buy the heat press, is it as easy as that ? or do I require any other equipment ? .
Thanks from the Loch.

As you said you have the cutter, and if you get a heat press then you just need the garment marking film …. it is as easy as that 😀 Victory Designs do a good range of garment marking films and they weed really well … might be worth a call for some samples??

Thanks Carrie, I see a few presses on ebay from £599
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? … eName=WDVW
They have a 15 by 15 plate on them, do you have any thoughts on them as they seem good value for the money.
Thanks

Hello Sconie,
Yes all you need is your cutter, heat press and of course garment marking films to be printed on the clothing
If you are going to get a heat press I would recommend getting a good one from the start and one that will last you a lifetime. Go for the ADKINS heat press and go for the deep impact swing-head press as this will open up opportunities for putting thick garments on and also if you wanted to do a bit of sublimation you can subli the plaques etc.

Thanks for the reply Nizzy, do you have any suppliers/prices handy. I will try to call around a few places later.
Thanks
Paul.

I got mine from Ian at NovaChrome – http://www.novachrome.co.uk and I get my garment films from Victory-Design – http://www.victory-design.co.uk/ also Xpres – http://www.xpres.co.uk/ (They also sell the Adkins heat press)
Hope your looking around pays off for you.

Thanks for all that advice, whilst on the subject of clothing, can I ask about sublimation, I take it you need a good inkjet printer, a bulk ink system, the transfer paper/material itself, is applying it done in a similar way using the heat press, any advice on which printer/ink system and transfer paper/material I should consider ?
Thanks again.

Although we no longer do it, we used http://WWW.themagictouch.com for our consumables, and hardware.
Laser, is in general better and cheaper than ink jet, And if you are planning to do more than just a few, laser is probably the road to take.

Thanks Peter, am I right in thinking you can only do this to 100% poly t-shirts and tops and that there is only one main supplier for these in the UK.
Thanks
Paul
