    HI all,

i’m hoping a basket might be an answer to this problem, when using one. does a long run of vinyl ‘roll up’ or consatina (fold up) in the basket ?

i scrapped loads of vinyl yesterday – about 25m… LG 7yr – when trying to cut a long (near 5m) run of stacked vinyl for my own vehicle, one success in four attempts, even the machine got an unfair kick as i lost it and put the boot into a mass of twisted vinyl (skin off a rice pudding springs to mind in hindsight !).

anyways, the problem seemed to be that the vinyl would come out onto the floor, and instead of rolling back and forth on itself, as it normally does, it kept kinking, standing up, and not laying proper, pushing it offline, and giving the cutter a hard time, i was doing what i could to smooth it before it went through the cutter, but ultimately, usually as it was cutting the last of the long weed cut lines i put in, it goes faster than i can keep up, it kinks, twists, and then spews the vinyl thru off track,

this is not to mention the dodgy contour cuts… which later made the one successful cut a bin job,

    grrrrr. sorry, rant over… !

so, will a basket help ? or make little difference?

ps, i use a summa D60 (610) so if anyone has a basket laying about, i’d happily remove it from in your way !

    thanks…

    Hugh

    Hi Hugh

I got the same cutter and when I bought it I got the supplier to give me the basket for free (and £400 off the price of the cutter and it was the expensive stand) anyway bragging over… :lol1: The basket does work well but have to say that it still is prone to kinking but maybe only 1 out of 20 times when doing long runs. It always helps to open the baskets up to thier fullest and I have no problem with it really, in fact if I did not have it I would have a problem 😕

Sorry forgot to mention that it will concertina and not roll as the weight of the hanging vinyl is not enough to force it to roll and the material is not smooth enough (feels like thick cotton material)

    hope that helps.

    Cheers

    A basket will help.
easy to make one, and the vinyl does concertina into the basket,
the other solution is to tell your cutting program to cut the shapes in order from start to finish so as not to get as much to and froing
and slow down the cutting speed,

Hugh you need to slow the up speed down (the speed that the plotter moves between cuts) and the cutting speed, that should do the trick

    Cheers

blimey, quick answers !! thank you all.

    Dave,
the cut speed is only around 300mm per sec, i think it was 450 from factory, way to fast for small stuff, so i set it lower and aint touched it since ! i’ll have a look at the travel speed though, didn’t know there was a seperate setting for this.

Pete, thanks, almost always, my stuff will cut in order, i deliberately design it that way to minimise cut time, however, there were so many cut / pastes on this job, that it woulda been impossible to tell, then i converted all to curves so i could do something else, ultimately it cut all over the place, about 20mins per 5m run !

ps, the correx basket sounds good, think i’d want to line it with something though !

Hi Nick, I’ll say ‘yes please’! :lol1: on Hugh’s behalf-always meant to get a ‘basket’, never got round to it.
